I knew somebody would call me out on this.
Digital clipping cuts through like nothing else, if the clip is less than 15-20 samples long you don't hear it as a clip, and as the attack of a snare is so quick it just adds a little bit of noise that works well with the rest of the snare. You should try it before you say it's wrong, there's no rules in recording remember.
