Okay, I backpeddled again... I just bought an Akai s2000 with 8 outputs off eBay for $200 (big score). I have a feeling this will solve all my problems (except the money problems).

YES YOU CERTAINLY CAN TRIGGER SEQUENCES WITH PADS FROM THE MPC 2000XL. HOWEVER...this won't help since you want to use it as a standalone. Hey man, I'd go with a 1/2 inch reel to reel analogue. It'll sound great. Maybe even compress a little when you go into it. Of course, you'll have to cut it, but if you're making new sounds from synth outputs, they aren't originally cut in the MPC anyway right? What I'm getting at is that having another sample editor w/ digital ins will preserve sound generation, but won't necessarilly save time. But with any of the suggestions you've got up here, you should be good to go.
