Should I trade a MPC2000XL for an MPC60II?

yeah, the 60 is crazy inspiring. easier to get around since it has less going on in the display.

It comes at a cost, some are willing to pay it because it's worth it. Features don't always make your tracks better.

All your getting with the 60 is a 12 bit sound that is barely noticable after you take your tracks to the studio. I bought an emax for the "sound" that people always talked about, and it's really not as important as you may think. The warmer MPC3000 sound can almost be emulated with any mixing board connected to the 2000/XL. The MPC-60 sound can be achieved with an akai S-950 hooked up to your XL. Not only that, but the timestretch function on the XL gets plenty of use from me, this feature alone would make me keep my XL. Personally, I like the 60, I think it's the best looking, and most rugged MPC of them all, and you can find them for about 6-800 bux. I want one myself, but it can't replace the XL.

Straight up recorded directly from the MPC60 stereo outs into my PC, no ProTools, compressors or any junk used inbetween.

I was getting ready to bash the mpc60, but it sounds damn good to me. I tried to use one once... jumped on it straight out of the box about two years ago... just testing it out for a friend... he knew I had a MPC 2000xl so he brung it by for me to try it... It wasn't bad at all just needed more sounds (I wasn't in my lab of course ). with the limited sounds he had it sounded dang good.

I guess I was going to be closed minded... thanks for saving me from my self......

You got 26 seconds sampling time with expanded RAM and can purchase the SCSI/Zip option from Linndesign.com, I usually just have one song per 3.5" floppy. It works out perfectly. I wouldnt sell my 2000XL though, I like em both.
