its bena wrote:and what do y'all think about people like eminem producing? Is that strictly just because you are the illest and #1 selling rapper in history & affiliated w/ dre, you can just produce and make hot joints all of a sudden? His beats are simple, and bang...all of a sudden he is this sought after producer. not hating..jus questioning..

I agree. Em is nice but his beats are really nothing ear catching to me. Bass and snare patterns are simple and elementary then added with eerie sounds and chords. Not saying that simple is bad because some of premo's beats are simple but they have soul to it- like Pete Rock or the Rza.

Anything from Krs, DITC, Duck Down, Mobb Deep, Ghostface, Rza, Gangstarr. Just to name a few

While we're still off topic  , do you guys really still think Diamond D is the best producer on the mic?
I prefer Insight. I cop anything this guy does too.

word I forgot MOBB, them too. Even that last ish, I liked "getaway"
just for this liine 'you aint a gangsta and yes, you can get touched' hahahaha
for some reason even though I know mobb deep aint real thugs (anyone remember Juvenile hell?) but they pull it off well.

and I think the best producer on the MIC is is still:
Pete rock or Evidence

I definitely give it up to P.R. on the production tip but he don't be writing his own rhymes. Grand Puba (Brand Nubian) writes a lot of his sh*t.

PR is a master and definitely has engraved his name in hip hops hall of fame..but DEFINITELY not on the mic….puba and CL write his rhymes. he occasionally comes off in his laid back predictable way (..”here comes the rugged one…bust the way I flip it”)…but Diamond D beats him in the best producer on the mic category. Regardless, I don’t have any beef with producers wanting to rhyme…eventually you’re gonna make some hot sh*t and get sick of giving beats away.

INSIGHT is dope..a purist and nice on the SP1200 (sounds like that’s what he uses)…I gave his double-CD a good listen..but BEST producer on the mic? that’s definitely opinion (which everyone is entitled to). Evidence is up there, cause although not everyone feels his style, u cant overlook that he is true to the art, and rather talented.. I heard Saukrates produces his own stuff…

Best producer on the mic….honestly a tough question..all I’ll say in closing is that Im happy that the 9th wonder produced jay z joint may actually make the black album…and that although “champion sound” wasn’t all I expected…madlib flowing over jaydee beats is a nice treat..that I could get used to. What do y’all think of Kayne’s flow?
