Sampling old records is what hip-hop is all about, but when you sample a record that was made from sampling other records, then your ****. Sampling isn't just sampling when you do that kind of stuff.

so then that nas song 'who killed hip hop' is the exception to the rule, or that song is wack on gp? or does the 'rule' not apply to certain ppl?

By The Beat Conductor Wed May 09, 2007 7:39 pm
I've never heard that song, so I don't know.

Ohnestly, I don't care if people sample other hip-hop artists. In the end, really ask yourself if it makes any sense.

Peace out...

Co sign..

And to the toys who wanna try to justify theyre bullsh!t, u dont realize how much of a wack fool u are.

Any of these peeps whose hiphop tracks u samplin, if u stepped to them and told them ud get slapped up hard without a doubt. Also outcast from the scene by everyone besides other toys who dont know what they doin.

Back to the topic... u want good drums.. dig, find drums, learn to layer and eq, learn to shape them to the sound u want them. If u aint gonna put the time in and want some easy quick route to sh!t then ur wastin ur time and everyone elses on this forum who post to ur sh!t tryin to help.

I bet if u told him that ud get slapped up

I doubt it- I've read and seen interviews with Pete Rock where he said that he did in fact use drums off of drum sample CDs (shocking, I know). I've never used any of those CDs myself, but I would guess that a lot of the samples are pulled off hip hop tracks rather than the originals, although I guess there's no way to know for sure.

Actually most sample cd's are done from original sources, same with sound modules too, like roland modules come with sh!t on them like the funky drummer break and sh!t etc..

Theres some other big known sample cd packages, cant remember the name of them (if it comes to be i'll post it) but they in nuff magazines and sound on sound etc etc, anyway the drums on those from the original break sources as well, even named the same.. sh!t like the uphill break etc etc

The only sample cd's that have been ripped from hiphop tracks are those bullsh!t ones that toys make and put out on theyre sites and ebay and sh!t.

some of his snares sound alot like some dilla snares and even a ribe called quests. im not sayin he samples them, im just making an observation. i would say if your gonna sample his drums, then you should atleast layer them a couple times to create your own. just a thought

Alot of peeps sample from the same sources.. hell of alot, that could be the reason..

Layerin drums is the way, they'll sound alot fuller and stronger too, its good to learn ur drum eq'n to use when layering so u can really get a good sound

A sound thats been sampled and resampled over and over is still a sound. If you want to sample Kev browns drums so be it. If its against your religion then dont piss your god off. But Pete Rock sampled a drum so you sample rock sample kev brown. It doesnt matter. Yall cats with hours of time to burn can dig, edit, chop, timestretch, layer, and compress to get one good kick. If that makes you feel better knowing you did all that, cool---in essence its lame especially if you can have a free steak instead of shooting the cow, skin it, boil the meat for a day, then season and cook it.

i aint ever sampled drums from a hip hop joint but i must say.........

FUK THE RULES!!!!!!!!!

Sadly legends did not become who there are by following the rules. Did Marley Marl follow the rules by sampling single snares when everyone was rocking a 808 ?, NO.

This sh!t about samplin hiphop is a f**kin joke seriously, I def know not to take u cats seriously, u down on the list of toys for sure.

DIGGIN is just as much part of hiphop as what u do once u chopped ur sh!t.

U DONT jack sounds from hiphop, u DIG properly for sounds, u kids got no respect for hiphop the way u goin on.. and its this toy sh!t and peeps not understandin sh!t properly which is regressin the artform instead of progressin it.

Also, how u layer, eq and shape ur sounds is just as important as the choppin and sequencin, can be more important some times coz it can be a huge contributing factor when it comes to an individuals sound, same as how peeps go with certain mix / master engineers for "theyre" sound.

Stop biting and steelin peeps sh!t... ever since the start biting has been a total NO.. wether ur biting an emcees lines or a beat makers drums.

U peeps are straight up WACK, and u wanna watch who u tell this sh!t to in person (the samplin off hiphop tracks etc).. coz i know nuff peeps who would slap u senseless for it no joke.

The pioneers put in alot of work, and now theres way too many kids like u not havin a clue what u involved in thinkin ur a hiphop head coz u hittin a few pads on mpc.. straight jokas.

As i said....

If ur lookin for a quick an easy way like jackin other beat makers sounds instead of learnin to do this sh!t properly ur in the wrong thing and wastin ur time... go take up another hobby coz u obviously aint got love for the art and culture...

It is really that hard to take the time to learn? to do things properly? U should enjoy learnin, coz no matter what stage u at theres always more to learn and more progression ahead, but ur skippin past sh!t and not going up the propa path's,, u wont get anywhere like that.. its just gonna f**k u up in the long run. And not only will u block urself from progression in various ways but u'll also block urself mentally from ever really clickin and understandin what ur involved in.

What u gonna do next for ur scratches? instead of learnin to dj u gonna sample other peeps scratchin from the hooks in acca's and piece that sh!t together as ur own? get out of here u fools.. straight up wack toys.

I dont understand how u even try to justify ur bullsh!t
