Tree, these dudes are right. Start digging! If your new to digging, just find your favourite songs, look in the credits section of the CD see if they list the samples for the song. Find those.
Pretty soon you'll start noticing which artists to check for, what labels, what producers, studio musicians, etc. to look for. It's a good journey, don't cheat yourself!
If your at a record store and you see a record with a dude with a big 'fro and looks like a pimp and it's from 1973...cop it! Chances are it has something dope on it...or it may not...but that's the thrill of the hunt. And a lot of the time your only spending a buck or two so it's cheap thrills, too.
With digging you have the potential to spend what it costs to rent a DVD, Buy a pack of smokes (or Fags if your in the UK hahaha), or whatever, and find something that you could sample that will make anyones jaw drop.
