My favorite also. What you said about the threshold is exactly why I didn't include the settings I use cause it's different for everyone and their source audio. Cashstill, you gotta play witht he settings. Take the threshold up very high and slowly drag it down until you get the sounds coming through. there is harld any difference in settings for different drums just play with the settings that's all.

For anyone who's ever been to a theme park here's a little analogy for you. Think of yourself and everyone else in line as the source(beat), the gate, sign with the minimum height requirements and the girl in charge of lettin' folks through as the noise gate. First, you have to stand next to the sign and see if you're tall enough to go through(threshold), if you're tall enough you're allowed through the gate, if you're not, you're not allowed through and kicked out of line(or in this case muted). Now the girl represents the release and attack settings, the attack setting represents how fast she lets you through the gate and the release represents how fast she closes the gate on your ****.

Another factor in all of this is that all noise gates don't work the same, and by "the same", I mean quality. I gated the same track with SF, CE and WaveLab using the programs stock gates and also some plug ins. The SF gate was the easiest to use and had the best results out of the three stock noise gates. CE's gate was a bit awkward but still gave me good results. WaveLabs was just garbage plain and simple(I should add that I used the same settings for all three programs.) While SF and CE were decent they couldn't even come close to the results I got from the Waves C1 Gate and the Sonitus:fx Gate(my favorite for this task).

a banging @$$ analogy

I figured out how to Chop the sample up by "regions" in Sound Forge
the real time Noise Gate i know its location but its not isolating the drum hits for me (I could still use some clarification on its settings)

What feature did you use to do this? I normally just do it in Recycle, but if I could do everything in Soundforge that'd make everything easier.

fo sho remedial

all you gotz to do is open up a Wav file
2. Highlight a section of the file you want to chop up
3. Click on Tools > Auto Region

(Now it will allow yo to choose if the sample is drum beat, speech, music, or etc. Choose the most logical one but sometimes you might have to trial and error your way through this part, the program not perfect, ya dig)

4. Click Ok
5. Go back to Tools > Extract Region

now yo shitz should be chopped up in the folder where you sent it

One

(If you want to chop up the whole file in one rip, don't highlight a specific selection. Just leave it as is when loaded and follow the rest of the steps)

Yo, if only I knew this before I would not have spent all that time messing with Recycle. I guess probably the only thing I would need Recylce for now is to stretch (not timestretch) my drum hits a little bit.

Damn. Good look cashstill.
