Man, I just sat and read this in one sitting. Mindblowing.

For the more adventurous, I have a tip:
Use Renoise or some other tracker on your comp. You can mess with samples in ways you wouldn't think of with an MPC. Mess around with some of the FX commands, and if you need to stretch in the tracker, without bouncing to and from your MPC or Live, you can use the 09xx effect. Since the tracker is like a big sampler in a lot of ways, y'all should be familiar with at least the theory behind its use. It has a bit of a learning curve, but load some good bass samples in and use the 01xx and 02xx (pitch slide) commands liberally along with 06xx and 07xx (volume slide).

To keep it simple, I'll say no more, and let the results speak for themselves. Take a listen, and I should also message that the Chemical Brothers started out using a tracker called OctaMED.

This loop is from an artist on Warp records called Brothomstates. I rendered this from its original source file, so I can mute tracks, play with the samples myself, etc.:

This is a loop that shows the pitch slide effect, and this awesome effect trackers have called retrigger .:

Get some 8bit video game style fx (trackers were originally used to write game soundtracks):

Maybe this sounds kinda ridiculous to most of you, but what I did back in the days when I only had a drum machine and a commercial audio sequencer (MAGIX Music Maker  ) is the following:

I always wanted some kind of dirty subbass like sound but had no synth. Well I took a 808 kick (one with a long release), edited out the attack then reversed it, maybe added a bit distortion and used it in different pitch setting. Sounds really crap but is great fun.

....oh, I just tried it and it has some kind of character *lol*

chop ya breaks in 8th notes only, instead of single hits whenver theres a drum. You can usually still play it back however you want to but it will still sound like a break...u kno...that natural drummer sound of a break

here's another one that can help me out a lot.. pretty simple

lets say i make an 8 bar loop with 4 tracks.. some chords on the keyboard, drums, bass, and a chopped up loop. what i'll do some times to switch up my beats.. is like simple copy the sequence and change just the way you laid out the samples, then delete the drums and re-do them, then delete the bass and re-do it, then delete the chords and re-do it. every now and then you just come up with somethin **** fresh that's completely different than what you started out with

Let's say i have a sequence at 75 BPM (but any bpm will do).

I'll chop something very short and then assign it to 16 pads with the tune function. I'll find a melody within the pads that sounds okay. It doesn't have to be a main melody, just something that adds ambience.

Now keeping in mind that the sequence was 75BPM, I'll go to a new sequence and either double up the BPM to 150 or triple it to 225. Now I'll play the melody while holding the note repeat button. With this you can get a roll much faster that you would have gotten with your original BPM. So, if I do the note repeat at 1/32 of double the BPM I originally had, you can get some cool driving rhythm sounds.

Anyways, I'll do a 4 bar sequence. Then I'll run it through effects until it sounds cool. Then I'll go back to the sequence and turn the loop function off. Then I'll sample from the Main out.

Now you can assign it to a pad and place it under your original sequence(75bpm) or chop it and do something else.

Something I've been messing with
