well version 8 is a step up from version 6 IMO... the limiter is a nice add-on.

You can also apply the appeggiator to the FPC, Slicer or what ever you use or drum. You can get everything from random weirdness to just really interesting drum patterns. Good for sparking some inspiration.

when programing using the step editor you can shift notes and get your "sloppy dilla drumz" on...

I love FL , but why mimic the mp in it ? ... I just use the piano roll and go bonkers . You can create way iller patterns in the piano roll. BUT FL will never give you that bump or that true choped up feel. Use it for what it is. I wouldn't try to mimic the mpc with it. Its almost limiting the program. (I use it for my drum n base fetish)

If you can't make FL "Bump" or have "that true choped up feel" then you don't know how to properly use it.

i used to use FL when i first started with the beats, and honestly i credit it for a lot of learning early on.

but once i learned the mpc, FL was just corny and boring to me.

i use software to edit and chop nowadays but everything ends up banged out in the mpc eventually.

i kinda agree with this. FL beats have a certain sound to em that doesn't sound right to me. maybe its just in my head, but i kinda feel the same way.

I learn to make beats on an MPC 60 first. The first beat machine I ever owned was an EPS. Every time I make a beat on FL people always think it's an MPC or a ASR-10. Why? because I think like a MPC an ASR. the program is a tool. If the sculpture don't look right you don't blame the chisel...

I love FL. To me the only thing that an MPC has over FL is the immediacy in which you will get the desired results.
But if you cant get the desired results with FL, then you simply don't know what your doing...

well I dont know about 9th wonder and which beats he made on what... but you can get a chopped up feel in fl no problem... and what difference can you hear? the sound isn't chopped enough? what does that even mean? you get a cut in the sample where you put a cut in the sample. the wave traveller chopping is pretty much identical to chopping on the XL...

it all depends on the methods you use.

more bumping? well i think that depends more on the sample you use rather then the program you are running...

Nah, I use the mpc all the time.... it just takes more work.

How to get your sound library to appear in the browser:

Add Directories to the Browser



Browser extra search folders

What do they do? The folders set here will appear in the FL Studio Browser in a green font so that they are easily identified. Here are four good reasons to use them:

1. You can drag sounds/samples/patches from the Browser onto the desired location in FL Studio and they will be loaded automatically (channel sampler, slicer, projects [drag onto the desktop], etc).
2. External folders keep your data independent from the FL Studio installation.
3. The extra search folders are (as the name suggests) included in automatic search and load operations.

4. The Browser contains some useful manual search functions so you can locate your files.

How to set them: 10 custom Browser directories can be set. To set a new browse directory left-click on the folder icon at the start of a row as indicated above or double-click the text fields to enter paths manually. The Name column determines the name to be shown in the Browser. If this is blank then the name of the target folder will be shown.

let's say you have a lot of sounds, samples, instruments and all that playing... you sometimes forget what sound or intruments is assigned to which mixer (fx) channel.



right click any channel in the mixer and chose "select linked channels" and it will light up the little green marker to each thing that is assigned to that channel. (you will notice I assigned kick, clap, and snare to channel 2)
