I was under the impression evidence has been using reason since the weatherman lp, possibly before. I saw a clip of a video where he was talking about maybe going back to the mpc and/or asr soon since he hasn't used then for a minute.

I believe rza hasn't used an asr since before the ghost dog ost days, and his beats suck lately.

Havoc used to be a 3000 man, maybe he still is - but his beats have fallen off too. The kush was weak in the beats department.

Anyways if these guys are still using hardware to make their beats then something drastic must have occured since none of their current beats sound anything like their best beats from the past.

And I would agree with you about illmind, but I never rated him to begin with, so he didn't make my list at all.

Boon Doc went down hill after he stopped predominantly using the MPC? WUT? He improved like a mother ****, his beats now are ridiculous! I'm actually full on confused by what you think's gone down hill in his music.

as for the main topic of this thread (that was the Chem Bros, yeah? ) they definitely changed style a bit after Dig Your Own Hole but not in a bad way, some of the new stuff is as good as anything from their early days

everything they do IMO... they do very damn well... they have me listening to songs in genres I completely dislike normally...

the first two albums and some of the electronic battle weapons (best name ever) are just my favourite in style and slamming-ness.

how would you know its their foray into software that made them suck as opposed to just falling off or just going astray from their initial sound?

it could be that maybe their music was really sample heavy when they werent as well known but once they are on that map its a little harder for your samples not to get noticed and get sued. or maybe they just stopped using breaks or whatever else.

i think the above is more likely than whether or not they went to software or not.
