See, See, Frogtown and Itchy gonna make me go into my closet and pull out them old Thompson metal and chrome cassette tapes (I still got MANY)and drift away into the past. I'm 34.

Erything already mentioned definitely had an influence but I ain't seen one of my favorites yet....

....Marley Marl, Large Pro, Paul C. and Eric B. and Rakim was doin some nice sh** way back. Marley Marl is a slept on pioneer no doubt. Out this way though...

West coast been bringin heat for a while too!!! But it's all love can't express in words the appreciation for ALL pioneers, including the whole soul catalog from the 60's and 70's which really paved the way!!!

Aphex twin and squarepusher first got me interested in production

The stuff Organised Noize did for Outkast first got me interested in hip hop production

but i can easily say that my life changed the first time i heard "36 chambers"

Thats pretty much it. I mean, i luv other albums and they all inspired me some way or another, but that one was the first where i was like "i want to do this"

then i met this kid named Todd who was a badd ass skater and DJ....he put me onto living legends. I always wanted to be a dj, but after that i started learning and seeing him do it made it more of a reality then just thinking about it. The Kid died, he will always be in my memories.

New albums I just check the productions I like the lil beat Dre and Cool did Love it or Hate it on the Documentary but I could care less for the rap.


As you can see I usually have one or two fav on a album that I really listen too.

I cant remember what originally made me want to produce at age 16. But I stopped and for like 4 years and the albums that made me really want to start back up are:

The Rza- Most of his early work (heavily influenced my samples)
Hive- Devious Methods and Working with Sound (influenced my drum programming)
Doc- Breath from Another (Esthero)
The Hitmen- Life After Death (Notorious B.I.G.)
NoID- One day it’ll all make sense (Common)
Beat Nuts- that ‘Off the books’ and ‘No Ecsapin’ This type shit
Just Blaze- Catalog
Dj Uneek- Bone Thugs, Ruthless catalog (huge influence, all the way around)
Dj Quik- Catalog
And who ever did the production on ‘Boss’ CD, that was my shit.

I've never heard Main Source's "Breaking Atoms".

I've just heard that song... the one where Nas is a like..."streets disciple, my raps are trifled, I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle..."

and also "Looking At the Front Door".

I'll pick it up if I ever see in the record store.

I heard the production is supposed to be pretty amazing.
