AFA MPCs Jammys Studio have DEM ALL. Mr Lloyd James (Jammy's name) had 3 sons all are producers, they use from 60 to 4000.
Most producers like Jazzwad (mpc3000), Sly (mpc60&2000xl), Steely(mpc?) are drummers fisrt, also keep in mind that they're all MUSICIANS (mean instrumentists) fisrt. That says, Sly or Steeely would play most of the track live pon di MPC, .

Did ya know MadLion fron BDP produced 45 riddims in JA??? "Tight up skirt" by RedRat, for GeneralDegree, Buccaneer n the all OperaHouse label... What drum machine did you think he's used?!

I'm gonna check them tracks out. it's amazing how much info you got on the gear used too, sh-101 is all i think of when I hear the synth effects on the local reggae radio around here. The modulation of the self oscillating filter is a big hit.

So when you gonna break down who's using the 60? I know Sly & Robbie used one, and Rita Marley has 60 all over her records, but it seems hard to get real info on what they were using. Even stuff like Scratch's gear is real scarce when i try to find it on the net.

Go buy Martin Cambell albums and on the back on most of the old alvum breaks down the list of everything used......

He basically went into king tubbys studio and wrote every piece of equipment down and started his own studio with all the same connections and equip....
Hes a white dude whos got the jamacian sound down...

Elma, if you can translate this page above, it will give you a sample on who im, and how im involve in reggae music.
I'm living in the Carib' from long now and i often go to JA, let's say min. 1 fly/year.
My whife is from WaterFord WestchesterJamaica, my youngest daugther lives with her grandfamily downdeh.
Also, my whife's father grown up in Waterhouse with friends like Deejay "MajorWorries" or "EarlyB" producer "JackScorpio", him is a die hard reggae freak, and teach me alot.
I cut riddim and make studio sessions overdeh, where ever at PenthouseStudio, SonicSoundStudio, DigitalB/Brickwall, TuffGong or Arrows... I meet musician and artists, cut dubplates and so...
I've seen in my eyes, SlyDunbar using the XL, JohnJohn & LloydJr with their mpcs, i've recorded with Jazzwad so i know he's 3000 head, he also got a Triton now, among a lot of other stuff...
About the 60, i don't know that much, sorry. You really can find 60 sounds banks in almost all "digital" studio, i'm assuming engineers used to sample dem from tapes when re-cutting riddims. But since 2001 the all game has change, now it's all about new sounds new machines.
JeremyHarding who made "Playground" riddim use Reason since, dem guys use Pro-Tools now...
Despite analog recording is still a standart in JA, new tools/technology are really overdeh. If you can try to list Anchor Recording Studio (where Sizzla recorded his latest albums), it's a good example...
In my point view, dancehall productions has really change during this 5/6 past years... Producers are bout the $$$ and there's not so much vibes in deh now... Dem bout selling tracks to the U.S no more bout heavy basses and good ish. It's the way it is now!

Yeah man, 'preciate the info. i've heard before that a lot of stuff went digital, and dub hasn;t been the same since. it sounds like Jamrock might have been done oldschool. That or they work very similarly with Protools to how it was done.

KingTubby's studio was an example for a lot of patrons in JA and UK...

man that Playground riddim was tuff sean paul, cobra and beenie man tore that beat up , i always wonder what they use to make it , did,nt know it was reason . the bass line on that riddim is solid .

ive being to anchor studio 2 times still , with earl chin, was in the back studio the one that has the brick walls faceing the mixer desk, the same room that shaggy did his ohh caralina tune, i heard that is bare hits come out that room,,

use to live in independence city , close by you . i use to run a shop on dermasons plaza above the pizza shop , back in the days .

do you remember this tune ( if love so nice by junior kelly ) the riddin was made by a close friend of mine, name nico , he has a studio at passage forth ,accross from the portmore mall.. he used mpc 3000, a mackie 24 track mixer, yamaha ns10 a korg m1 and some other sound modules, he was the one who showed me the mpc and brought me in to the world of music making, that dude is wicked on reagae beats ,

Reason why i'm away from this site sometimes: dudes are more bout the gears than the vibes .
As producers, men like Tubby, Coxone, Dr Alimentado, Jammy's or Scorpio were RECORDING ENGINEERS first, then studio owners... Dem have to be creative with the recording gear (The Dub) then hire skilled musicians & bands (RootsRadics, FireHouseCrew...) to cut riddims. Back den experiment was the key, but hey, you'd must have to be really good in what you do.
IMHO, creativity, skill, practice, knowledge and perseverance came first; gears came after .

yagga kilo, you made a good point earlier, about those who use the mpc were "MUSICIANS" first, almost every producer down there can either beat the drums or skank the keys. which shows in the music without doubt. yeah man me know me arrows, dats where steven stanley rest, used to be assistant engineer there, he is the one who hook me on the ns10s, and time delays with verbs and echos, man ...
i am home sick........ every time i think about it, i dont know if you ever pass through LEGGOs studio, tht was my fisrt experience in a studio, and i just move up the ranks......
