Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

producers don't use software. That is the craziest thing that i have ever heard. just look at or just blaze or alchemist they use protools. some producers don't use software, but as a professional (meaning i earn a living from it) I can tell u that i am a producer that uses software. The point of this whole thing is that u can make tracks on anything like i said before, but talent is the key. the reality is that not everyone has talent.

software is cool to a point beating it out on that hardware has a special feel that software doesn't give plus that whole mouse thing drives my nuts after awhile.

fruityloops is like mpc and asr for me !

By elmacaco Sat May 14, 2005 2:56 pm
Yeah Beat God, I know that, But I was talking Producers like Quincy and Dre, they got a guy that works the mouse for them if they are rocking protools, these hip hop producers are self made beatmakers rather than the producers of old, where they have some engineering skills and some producing skill and some songwriting skill, but a producer is not usually the engineer of a project. You get what I mean, they don;t touch the mouse, all that work is done by the engineer. If you a one man show, well you're doing those 3 jobs yourself, but you know what I mean.

By Beat God Sat May 14, 2005 3:36 pm
the problem with jobs is that as technology increases the amount of responsibility increases for one person. back when those cats came up it was neccessary to seperate tasks. now that one box can handle the tasks that a number of units had, it is now possible for 1 person to be in control of a lot more. it is like the subway system in new york. the mta is getting rid of the conductors and just having the motormen operate the trains, because technology has eliminated the conductors position. In the past a engineer was also responsible for calling up sessions. now we have total recall thanks to computers. so it was much more than a few mouse clicks. technology is to be embraced not fought cause u will be left behind if u don't.

It's funny when we see new members start taking people on when they really don;t know shyt about them.

Point it, you really have put the time into all them programs, that's all I was saying. I remember when Retro AS-1 came out, not sure how many others remember them days unless you're at least 25 or got a real early start.

ah yes, retro AS-1. haha. I friend of mine (who makes better music than all us MPC forum heads together) he uses Madtracker, Cooleditpro and retro AS-1 and thats it. He makes the best music with it. He doesnt have any outboard gear, no midi controllers, nothing.. Just a mouse and his qwerty keyboard and a Pentium 2 computer with an onboard soundcard.
There is no need for hardware, there is no need for software, there is only a need for talent ;)

true, there is nothing better than a live band. but if you want to keep up with the new generation of music makers/producers you "best" get on that technogy band wagon (and fast).

i disagree completely. music aint about technology!

By elmacaco Sat May 14, 2005 9:18 pm
I hear you beat God, but look at the top producers of the day, I'm not saying just hip hop, just the top paychecks in the industry. You think Dre doesn't have a guy to do all that for him? You think he's messing pressing record on a software app? Hell no. Puffy? Can you see him sittin at the screen? Nah. I respect guys that can do it all and do it all themselves, but the real moneymakers aren't the cats doin it themselves, and they have people there doing it. In my statement I said Quincy and Dre to indicate who I'm talking about. I'm not saying anybody should remain ignorant about computers like it's a requirement, but these guys aren't engineers, they are producers, they have engineers for the technical side. Few Engineers become big producers like that.

MY Problem is THIS NARROW Crap on Production ................

IF U Like SOFTWARE USE IT IF U LIKE HARDWARE USE IT..............

ACTUALLY As Far AS Sequencin' Goes MANY People HATE Software Sequencers.....................................................

NOT me personally but many People HATE the LIKES of LOGIC, CUBASE or EVEN the GREAT PROTOOLS............................

MY I Like Some Soft and Some HARD................................

What Puzzles ME is That MANY of THE GREAT ROMPLERS n PLUGINS that People TOUT on this Forum R JUS AS Compatable with ....................

FLSTUDIO/Fruityloops as LOGIC, Cubase or PROTOOLS and Even in Some Minor Cases MORE Compatible.......................................

FL USES ...............BUZZ, VST/VSTi, DX/DXi Plus it own Generators and ITSELF Can BE USED INSIDE OF LOGIC or CUBASE as A VSTI or IT CAN BE REWIRED 2 LIVE or REASON.................................................

THE FLSTUDIO SuX Syndrome on this FORUM IS Laughable........NO REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FL BANGZ COME 2 MY Crib and GIT UR LEARN ON.............................
the Cats Who Know ME HERE Can Tell U I'M SICKKKKKKER than OUTBREAK ON THAT PIECE

DON't GET it CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 .. .. ..

Image

THe Coolest thing on FLSTUDIO IS THE EASY assignment of Controller Mappin' The Only Progg esaier in this Area NOW IS REASON 3.0
and Some of it IS PRE-Mapped...(So NO...I Don't USe A Mouse I Can PLAY)

Image

I Often Use Cubase SX 1 Which is Cool and I Use 2 Use LOGIC 5 before they Jumped into STEVE(THE PIMP OF APPLE) Jobs Pocket.................

But these Programs DO Have A Learning Curve and It is Quite A Jump 4 Some............

Again it is UP to U to Decide Which Way IS UP FOR U < ... >

and AS Far AS Patches on VSTis Taking LONG 2 LOAD well R U Suing Sample Based Stuff?????????..............................

IF NOT IT Won't BE A Problem.........and IF ITS REASON 3.0 WOW There (Nearly) is NO WAITING TIME...........................

ME I LUV..........................FM7.........PRO-53.......ABSYNTH 3(WOW)........
KORG LEGACY (Especially the WAVE STATION).....................................

and SONIC SYNTH/SAMPLETANK2 (IS THIS LEGAL, GOOD LORD).........

mwalker Bury that Stuff Under FT.KNOX ..............HOT...............

TIS ALL up 2 the Producer ...........All on the Producer...................
