i hope people understand that great drummers like Idris Muhammed actually worked hard to get those swings that sound just a little bit off...the only accidents in music are the ones that don't sound good and they aren't acknowledged as accidents until after they're lamented...everything is very intentional and there is a lot of technicalities behind stuff folks take for granted......swing didn't even exist a century ago...imagine how many possible rhythms there are that haven't even been explored yet...

im with MarkWolbirgh on this and i am White. Drums arnt meant to be quantized except in techno/house/etc (and a lot of times not even then)

I've heard killer tracks that were quantized. I've heard killer tracks that were unquantized. There are really no hard and fast rules regarding this issue. Do whatever works.

in the 'Edit' field move the jog wheel till it says 'Shift Timing.'
in the 'Direction' field move it to earlier or later.

usually i turn the quantize off, sometimes you gotta follow how the sample is played or just how the kick and snare are played, then the hi-hat/percussion determines it. perfect example of utilizing swing is dj scratch, the swing on his drums are crazy.

if you 'fiddled w it and didnt hear a difference' you don't have a good feel for what swing really is, so why not take the free advice?
