I've never noticed that, but the Shining sounded great to me, as far as mixing and mastering goes.

I don't care what Dilla used to make this album or what the mastering engineer did to make it louder. Fact is this album is MUSICALLY great and that's the reason I love it, the reason its one of my favourite albums ever and the reason J Dilla was a genius and will always be a legend. The man had SOUL.

it's been mentioned in a few magazines actually.

i had the article from future mag. posted here...but i guess it got put down to prevent any drama from happening....dave did a good job on the mastering still

Dilla did make the DONUTS on the 303 he used Madlib's 303 when Madlib & Peanut Butter Wolf & Egon went to visit him in the hospital they brought him some records and the 303. Dilla didn't even have his 3000 since he got sick in the hospital cause it was at the owners of S.I.C. home studio and J Rocc just got it back like a few months ago casue those guys were trying to keep it.

So could u just run the outputs into a mixer with a mic input? would u have to run it thru the XLR input or could u just run it thru the 1\4 inch input?

also if u had a mic pre... how would u run the stereo outs of the mpc into the XLR input of the preamp.... couldnt it only be in mono?

I like Donuts but I don't think it sounds that great, the drums don't really hit at all...but that doesn't make it bad, I just don't hear it and think damn how can I make my shit sound like this.

try using a limiter on the master gain as well

What do you mean? Like tracks that Dilla already did awhile ago were being used? Cause he made the whole album in like less then a year except like 2 songs are from his 3000.

what he means is that the project didnt go from dillas 303 to a cd, evrything was mixed and mastered professionally....

Oh yeah of course but Dilla was nice with Pro Tools.

For God's sake, don't just keep cranking your levels up to make the music loud! In fact, most pros prefer to leave some 'head room' when they record. You can always turn a track up in the mix, but if it clips then you are screwed. I usually mix it to so that it sounds balanced and proportional and dont worry about 'loudness' until you master it. Then use Izotope Ozone (http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/media/ozone.html) to master it. It is one of the best out there (although it uses the same principles) for desktop mastering! Their 'loudness maximizer' provides nice loud sound with minimal distortion. Hope this helps.

Try using the sidechain on a compressor. That works wonders.
