How many beats do you make in a Sitting????

Nah yo, i feel you all the way with this one. i have a wife and 2 kids. 10pm is a bout the time everyone goes to sleep, then it's my time to do music. Juggling a family, your day job and music is kind of tuff if music's not your full time gig.

sh!t i go t awife and 3 kids, but yeah i dont work but i got to watch my three year old allday my wife goes to bed at 7pm and the kids goto bed at 9 excpet my three year old he stays up with me till 11pm so i got from 11 on , which i stay up till 2 or 3in the am , but yeah i hear you it hard when you got a wife all they do is hold you down, but that sh!t is no more for me i'm going to start trying to work more on my music i can always get groupie anyways.

A question to all.....when you're all talking about making beats, do you mean making one or two patterns with variations to them (or maybe 3, 4, 5, etc..) or making a whole complete "song" with all the dropouts and everything, totalling in at the 4 or 5 minute mark type of thing? I have wondered this many times when people on here talk about making beats. To me, it seems like a beat is only done once it's all ready for an MC to rhyme over, but I may just be looking at this from a different angle. To say that a single sequence is a beat by itself makes some sort of sense on one hand, and I could see where you'd be coming from, but that seems to me to just be a sequence and not a complete "beat".

I go through phases, I'll make a bunch of beats in a sitting, just beats and whatever, then I'll go back to them and pick one that I want to develop, then I add more shyt to it, then open that sequence alone and copy, mute, then song mode.

Sometimes tracks sit in song mode for a few days while I fine tune them, othertimes it's quicker.

My ratio varies, but usually out of 10 'beats' I'll develop and record 3. Not that the others aren't good, but by the time I'm done with three I got other shiyt I wanna mess with, so I start the process over.

my beats are simple, and drop outs and stuff are done with the emcee. So really, im refering to a 2-4 bar pattern, with a main melody, then either a drop out or change up, or hook for the chorus......

Ohhhhh.....okay. I thought you all were making like 10 full length tracks a day somehow. I was feeling really really lazy in comparison!

yeah, i mean, really even if i did 10 full length tracks, my full length is still 2-4 bars looped; granted there is the ocassional break down track where i get more complex....buy you can do lots of variations with just 2 bar loops......just dropping in and out instruments at differant times.

thats atleast how i go about it.

I also try to bring in counter melodies....usually i can get like 4 differant good melodies to work with drums and bassline, i just keep working untill i get a few pieces that work well.

if im straight sampling, then usually its 2 bar loops, or two 2bar loops put together.
