J Dilla's Drumming (what makes it unique?)

Is Jay Loves Japan out? The article said May...

there are a bunch of bootlegs going around claiming to be the jay love japan albulm. the ones i have heard are really dope. and they are definitley dillas music. one is like abeat cd with like 50beats the other is like an advance copy of the jay love japan album, it has some of the same beats from the beat cd and a few new ones. it has his mom on one track , j davey, the pacific division, t rauch, or whatever his name is, and some othe peolpe.

but to change up the subject i dont think dilla had certain techniques or ways to get the sound that he got with drums, or whatever. he did what he felt and what he wanted. im pretty sure he took a different aproach every time he started a new song. he he experimented till he got that sound he wanted. but since he new his equipment and could play his instruments very well. it made it that much more easier for him. and on top of that he pushed him self to do different things and come with something never heard before. so its impossible to break down dillas style. hes the only person who could break it down or simplify it.

If I'm not mistaken, he was the first producer to use handclaps also

dilla was the first to use claps like he did. he did live claps and a bunch of other crazy style claps that was never heard before, in music and especially hip hop. of course they used claps in funk,soul,or whatever style. but they were mostly live claps or from drum machine. which all sounded the same. he flipped claps. just like every other sound he used. he may not have been the first to use a certain sound or record or whatever. but when he used, he flipped so it was new to your ears.

i disagree but we're all entitled to our opinions.....

I dont think Dilla so much poineered a production method. He just had a signature style and created alot a quality tracks...

i agree... i wouldn't say his style was revolutionary but... let me take that back.... he kinda spearheaded the whole neo-soul era (i.e. D'Angelo, Bilal, Erykah Badu, etc.) but he most definitely put the SOUL into hip hop (i.e. hello ATCQ, De La Soul, Common). yes, he did have a signature style (which to this day, i'm trying to understand the madness to his mayhem!!!) and influenced alot of big heads (i.e. Kanye, Pharelle). i listen to his shit almost daily.
