The twofold answer is is largely very simple.

"Louis Flores better known as BreakBeat Lou"

Ultimate Beats & Breaks...Go through every volume, check the release dates. In every case whatever breaks went on the latest UBB wax was what ran in NY for the next couple seasons to a year.

It was a lot of that and multiple cats independently sampling the same drums. How the first assumption would be they sampled each others finished records is beyond laughable. Especially in an era where it's rather easy to tell different recording of breaks, as well as the distinct sounds of the sampler.

So if some of you wanna believe that the great Paul C.'s protege Large Pro was filling his SP from jacking Gang Starr, Pete Rock and Tribe joints is somewhat ridiculous.

And for the last time swapping chops or a disk of them is NOT straight jacking another producers record. So just dead that already. If some of you can't see the difference we can't explain it in a 100 years to y'all.

And this idea that because sampling is done in general makes sharking fellow beatmakers finished work totally cool is pedantic and misguided.

All I'm mad at is some of you guy's staunch defending of biting and being lazy.

All of y'all go chop up Donuts and say it's yours have at it... :Sigh:

"So Reg basically just find the original drum break for whatever beat you like and sample it from the original artist who had it mastered by their engineer and then you are fine according to your critics. Its obvious to me Reg does it as a tutorial to help aspiring producers and it surely doesnt bother me. Do your thing Reg."

With a download encouraging brand new cats to go in with his cannibalized Ali and Tip hits.

I've already said it, but next time a legend is in front of your face, ask them if it's cool with them if rather than go hook up your own drums you just take theirs right off their classic records.

You'll only get something between a blank stare, a head shake, or some would likely smack the taste out your mouth.

Put this to a poll it will be another one of these 25:3 ones, in favor of, "c'mon son don't do that..."

Majority of my youtube videos are about helping people that are just getting started in the beat game. I have sooooo many drums that I thought it would be interesting to sample how the pros do it and share it. By no means would I purposely jack beats and call them my own. Being involved with hip hop since 1985, I like going back and sampling some of my favorite producer beats JUST TO MESS AROUND.

Feel guilty about what? I am confused. Are you guys that serious and focused that you don't have fun anymore? I have fun with hip hop. I am hip hop. I've been doing this stuff since 1985 and I have no problem sampling and remixing something that I like. That is what I have been doing for years as a DJ, on the radio. Saturday night mastermix included sampling drums to remix the song.

different types of "fun", my idea of fun is getting dusty in the back room of the record shop spending 5-6 hours coughing and wheezing from the dust and coming out with a stack of the most awesome schit ever... even if im not going to sample it. reap the fruits of MY labour son...

Nothing personal reggiereg1, I just don't see why you'd spend the same amount of time chopping mastered hip hop records rather than just sampling drums like the people who made those hip hop records.

A well dug/sourced drum archive should have thousands of hits and there are literally millions of drums sounds out there so I don't see how anyone would ever need to jack producer's hits right off their records.

Dude, because its fun. I guess many people on this forum are beatmakers. I remix and part of remixing is using the same drums. I have no problem with it, I've been doing it since the mid 90's on the radio and in the club. Nobody came up to me and said what the heck are you doing sampling those drums man. Lol

What makes it yours? If I sampled billy squire big beat and placed a sample on top, am I allowed to enter the "yours section"? What if I sampled a clap from Cheryl Lynn to be real, am I allowed to enter the 'yours section'? :hmmm:

:hmmm: are you **** simple dude?

Your title says 'beat kit' not ATCQ remix. In which case you didn't do **** but chop some drum hits and make a kit - no beatmaking there.

So what's your point? I do a little bit more than just chop drums. I am not that person.

:hmmm: i dont get it...

I tried to get dude to battle in the last mpcbb but he pm'd saying 'what are you a child? This isnt a playground' etc (to think i actially submitted some turd beat as well just incase he turned up on the final line up) before that tho he trolled the sh*t out my youtube leaving comments about how unoriginal i am...thats right this dude had the gaul to call me unoriginal  (check the soul junkies youtube page for more hilarious comments from reggie)

Offers still open tho?...

Heavie any chance your down with reggie?...otherwise you dead wrong

Why do I need to battle you? I have not one thing to prove to you. You remind of when I was in high school back in 1986 and dudes would be like let's battle. So **** me, you sound like a real hater. Lol

Nothing personal homie. I like your enthusiasm and the blend later in the video was cool. And yeah in a mash up remix context, anything goes. A lot of us are just saying that if the idea was to make more your own song as opposed to the mashup/remix stuff it's more the norm to get drums off the older sources.

I used to spin and I still do blends, crazy complex edits/remixes etc. So I totally get what you're doing on the blend/mashup tip. So I know the blurry line between mixing and producing. And nobody here is against the Peace Unity and Fun Bambaata teaches is the essence. Just the specific idea of using a hip hop legends released/mastered drums for something presented as an original song as opposed to a blend/remix.

yeah cool... great.. im talking about those said "noobs" you are providing the kits for as learning material. (or what ever the story was.. i've lost track)

the guilt comes in at the point... they didn't flip those breaks... which is like half of what makes a hip hop beat dope in the first place.. I know you know what I mean... when you hear a sample a producer flips and you know the song... or let's even say we hear two beats made by two different producers with the same sample being flipped... how do we evaluate which one is better or doper? By which one is flipped better... which one has drums that were flipped better.. which one is more unique.

At least that is what im looking at.. and while I may not know im hearing a beat made with those drum packs of yours.. but if I knew I made a banger and those were the drums i used... no edits.. just straight chopped from another producer's album.. id feel like I half assed it at my chopping game. Hell, Every beat I make I chop right off a break fresh each time and EQ/edit the sounds fresh for each beat (you gotta fit it in a way that works with the song, right?) and maybe I didn't get out the winston's B side to record it fresh, but I have that .flac or .wav on the computer for convenience..

hey, no hate.. have fun.. hell I remix stuff too... we're just having a discussion on hip hop here... redbull music should do one of those talks on this topic.
