You could probably back and forth this turntable thing for days. I know there are alot of young cats on this thread but most of the items not considered musical instruments came into play because that's what was available at some point. Hip hop started with pops turntable and diggin thru the records to find an original beat the next crew didn't have. Some cats had guitars and s**t so they did the live music thing. Some cultures cut the bottom off a 55 gallon drum and tuned it to make steel pans which is an instrument. I'm not knockin nobody' opinion, use what you got to make the music.

old blues cats were playin that bass made outta a bucket and a poll. that louie armstrong tip. Carvin guitars outta a log. I feel if u are doin anything to manipulate it to oraganized noise , it is becomes a musical expression and musical instrument.

thats right fez some peeps just need to agree to disagree- i can see what everyones saying i just think following that logic abosultly everything has the potential of being a mucial instrument- hey this tape deck is an instrument as i can smash it rhythmically onto this table- still im glad they invented the drum kit- sounds a bit better i think

for real...some old flamenco music has people stomping on dirt roads as percussion...shit, i have a rare album from a group called the jumping jacques that uses no instruments, they like the Magnets all the sounds come from the humming melodies and shit. but it sounds like a full track with drums and all that. i have some sun ra joints where its just him and a single bongo, thats the same as me banging a coffe cup on a table ryhtmically and recording it. it makes no difference , its still art

but a musical instrument is anything, EVERYTHING has potential to be one,your body can be a musical instrument. if i bang my head against a wall and record that shit then thats my music, thats just how art goes. art is a free spirit thing. dudes would be like, what the **** is this??? when they heard it, but if thats what i wanted to do then thats me, thats my art. cats just overanalyzing this shit way too much.
