interesting, the softsynths sound a bit 2D, but interesting.
It's a shame that it's got that PT glossy sound to it, Shadow's older productions had much more interesting sound character to them, not even because of the MPC but probably from the samples themselves and the outboard processing used.
mix OTB man!!!!

Basically, I think dude learned most of what he could with his older gear. But, to tell the truth when I first copped his CD a few years ago, I didn't understand why he wasn't using Pro Tools anyway. It was just that back in the day, there was an anti-computer vibe in Hiphop. (Maybe somebody should do an interview with Kwame or Jazzy Jeff. They can tell it.) I saw it with my own eyes. Cats would look at you like you were nuts if it wasn't MPC60 and S950. That was it. No more. No less. That's what he grew up on.
Times change and people do too. And some muthaph#kkas even learn how to read some manuals and even learn how to use a mouse.
Peace.

well, that and the fact that computers in 94-95 were not good enough to make the songs that shadow made with the MPC/ S950 combo.

i didnt mind the track, thought it def stands out different and i pretty much always like that. would never have guessed it for a shadow prod, but i think its cool he's trying something different. reckon he's been making these tracks for a min using a diff name...?
the style of this beat doesnt exhibit the same mastery of his sampled stuff, but i like hearing people try try new things.

Its weird to use a PC and quit sampling at the same time, I like soft samplers better than most soft synths.
If I could afford outboard gear tho, there's no way I would use a PC. Think about it, buy a couple synths, a couple samplers, a DPS 24, and call it a day. Maybe use a PC for sequencing, if you like that sort of thing, but the sound quality of dedicated outboard right now dukees all over a computer synth in a nasty nasty way. Think about the Rhodes....Motif....Fantom.....k2600.....Alesis Ion...not to mention Andromeda...I could go on and on. Link these to an MPC 2500 to sequence and you can do N E thing sonically.
Bottom line, I guarantee Shadow won't be using FM7, Reason, or Reaktor (well maybe if he gets deep into that one) for long. Outboard gear is just better if you can afford it. I can't so I use a PC for whatever I can, its good, but dedicated controller/hardware of synths is just plain BETTER implemented. Maybe takes up more space and costs more, but that probly isn't an issue for Shadow.
