Kick track1, Snare track2 seperating tracks why?

This turned out to be a pretty good thread. Lots of different oppinions

Not at all. I use a software sequencer to arrange my songs by recording each individual track's sequence. So not only do I NOT have to mute things in real time, I also don't have to take the time putting together a bunch of different sequences just to accomplish what I'm trying to do. Not only that, but when I want to re-arrange a part of my song, I don't have to rerecord it either. I simply make changes to the arrangement on my computer, and mix it down again. In order to do this, I have to put each sound on it's own track.

Wow, this thread blew up...hahah yeah sparq. I really liked your summation of the process when using the 1K, my original post was just after I purchased my 1st MPC and certain things were puzzling me...coming from a PC environment I was under the assumption that you needed to have everything separate but its not the case.

Being a drummer I really need to lay down drums with on one track, just is quicker and more of a natural feel about it so I was relieved to know that I don't have to use individual tracks if I don't want to...thanks for everyones input

why even buy an MPC if you aren't going to use the tracks????

I am using the tracks?, my original question is actually more to do with assigning and if there is a need to use separate tracks

I read the info people posted & decided for the way I work using individual tracks would slow my workflow down, and given I'm a drummer its not an option to step back in process & lose feel with my drums...with the 1K I am sequencing all my samples, my drums,percussion,bass etc etc then assigning pads to outputs then Sync & Track to DAW where further work is done in Sonar & Pro Tools etc, vocals are added & final mixdown takes place...Sometimes I will jam along to sequences synced in Sonar and run VSTi synths to render new parts and fly em back into MPC to be able to tap em out [stiffening them up a lityle]...Boogie Man, I think I know what I'm doing so maybe dont make assumptions about ppl abilities or intentions before you know the full story...

no one is saying they are not using the tracks when they said they use one mpc track for all of their drums. an mpc is not just to utilize all of the tracks. it's to program your drums using your hands on the pads. to me in my opinion, an mpc is in this order: sampler then drum machine, then midi sequencer. so to that effect, you sample/import in your drum samples, bang away your beat then sequence in any other midi instrument/samples you want.

now me personally, i stated i use 1 mpc track to do all of my drums, then use any subsequent track(s) for everything else.

also again, there is no right way or wrong way to use the mpc's tracks. it's all according to how comfortable you feel working. you establish your own work flow.

lol MPC being a sampler first....the entire idea of the MPC is the sequencer...MIDI PRODUCTION CENTER.....are you saying that if you take away the sequencer the MPC would have it's rep??? I think not....

and no, there isn't one way of doing things....

LOL, Damn Boogie u act like were doing something major here like not using the sequencer at all. You act like we are just using the mpc as a midi sampler slaved to fruity loops.

Now keep in mind we are not saying that we put everthing on the same track. But mainly like kick snare and high hat if they have the same swing percentage then we will put them on the same track. I dont see any reason to split them up, thats just an extra step IN MY OPINION. Of course thier is times when I do split them up If I want to do something where I deem it nessasary. But mainly I just use track 1 for kick snare hat.
