this is true...actually if you are just starting out get the eps-16 plus manual.

the asr is the same but has more options/upgrades.

read the eps manual first, it's a lot shorter and very to the point.

got a few new questions...

1) how good and easy to set up/recall is connecting a Padkontroller to the ASR 10 ?
expecialy recall... is the note# that you set each pad to saved in the ASR Memory?
or is it rather a pain to always assign the right sounds to the right pads?

2) i understand that one want to set different Elements i.e. Drum Parts like Snare / HH / Kick to different Tracks of the 8? Possible Tracks, to track em out seperatly with the Expander and also to edit them (within ASR) seperatly i guess....
but me personaly i really like to play at least 2-3 Drum Elements at once, as i have a better, more natural Feel that way... its very obvious with the outcome...
so i ve read that you could do that and than simply copy/delte for example your drumroll,HH,Snare and put them out of the Kick track into a dedicated track each...

like that?

Plain Way. I gotta 60 hooked up, and you set the note#s on ur controller.

You can't change the note assignments on the ASR.

Thanks. You single handedly saved my ASR-10 from being given away for broken out of anger. :D My ASR-10 has a broken
left scroll key, the last white keys to the left are broken (my idiot brother dropped it), it has no scsi, no 8 outs, and very little ram. Fixing it, let alone pimping it would have surpassed even the cost of buying a MPC 2500 on the street. Hell I got my 1000 for $200 (with no HD, ram, and dead pads). Thesoniq (ASR-10 repair) charges a $70 flat rate for labor, and God knows what for parts. He won't give you and estimate even if you know whats wrong. Damn, I just wanted to make some drum patterns from it every one and while, because saving multiple floppy's for a few seconds of sample time is annoying. I have translator pro but couldn't get passed that disk format issue and eventually gave up.

Does this mean I can can use omni-flop to make a floppy disk formattable for translator pro so I can finally write ensoniq floppies? :shock:

Anybody can fix that left scroll key. Do a google search for music gear reapir in your city. And they should be able to replace the key too. And you can get ram dirt cheap on the bay.

i'm glad we have this thread without people saying "THIS IS THE MPC FORUM, IF YOU WANT ASR HELP, GO TO THE ASR FORUM", because the asr forum sucks pretty badly. its like a ghost town over there and its so much less advanced it feels like a good answer would come once in a lifetime

so if i want to track out of the ASR-10 into protools (garageband for now..) via midi, what midi interface/cables would i need? can i even do that? so that when i record on protools all of the tracks are synched up and record at the exact same time. the asr-10 is interchangeable with an mpc in this question i guess so if you know how to do it with an mpc you could probably help out

confusing me with "tracking midi"

you DO know that recording your midi is only the information/event/note etc NOT THE SOUND !? if not i d strongly advice you to read up about what midi is...

for tracking audio you need any audiocard/interface with at least audio 2 IN/OUTS ... and usualy all of em have midi aswell...

this is not very ASR spedific stuff tbh and very basic.... my advice screw the protools idea

anyone knows the SPYRUS RD300 CF reader ?

i bought that one, i am sure i read on ASR Forums it works with the ASR

but wanted to know if its hotswapable or not...... i dont mind if its not, but dont wanna damage anything by assuming it is...

anyone a word on this?

i don't know much about midi but isnt there some midi clock shit that separates the tracks out and records them all at once?

+ didnt find it in the manual yet but :

if i play i.e. Kick,Snare,HH within 1 Track to keep the rythm... can i actually mark i.e. first ALL SNARE Hits and paste them into an extra Track and mark all HH and do the same etc??

because otherwise that d be sick if i d have to drag each hit seperatly????

External Spyrus RD300 scsi cf drive is hot swappable
