!!! Can anyone answer this question Please !!!!

There is a Keyboard or something with a particular sound set in it, that is very common in most all mainstream hip hop.... from late 90's till now. Mostly bell sounds and trianlge sounds.

here are some of the songs I can think of off the top of my head that use this sound set I'm talking about.


Tony Toni Tone- let's get down
DJ Quik- dolla n sens... the song he dises mc 8
Dr. Dre- slow song with snoop off chronic 2001
2Pac- California Love album version on the CD
Big Pimpin - dogg pound
pitch in on a party- Dj Quik most all of quik's music have these bells n' ****
a song on Ja Rule's last temptation starts out with these sounds
nelly fertardo- fist song on her NEW CD... one trick pony or some ****.


I know this is a long shot but, if you have heard these sounds on a lot of songs.... please let me know what keyboard or drum machine that has these I have always wanted to know.

Are you talking about that bell sound that rings and bends and kinda sounds like it's in water or something? I just want to know the name of the instrument.

Agogo, cowbell/analog cowbell, triangle/open triangle, bell, bell tree, etc.

These sounds can be found in every sound module/rompler/keyboard out there. Go buy any of them, sample the percussion hits and take the gear back. Then tweak your samples until you have the sound you want.

Or spend a few measly bucks on a percussion sample CD and save yourself the hassle of buying gear and then hoping they belive your story at the music store when you attempt to return it (they wont).

www.samplecraze.com (who makes most of my sounds) has some of the more random percussion stuff like trianges, agogo etc on his site.

I've never had a problem returing gear but I guess it would be more convinient to buy a sample cd with these sounds.

I would think it probably be the Triton your hearing.

A couple of those producers on the list I know they use it (from interviews or watching tv seeing gear in background)

But I can't tell you if they used it really on that particular track.

Quick / Dr. Dre = use Triton Keyboards among a dozen more

Test one out in person see if you hear the sounds.

Oh yeah, on a sample cd level check Ebay for Triton sounds.

You bound to find a cd with the sounds instead coppin the $1,500 board.

DJ Quik And Dr. Dre use a lot of live instruments........I seen footage of quik in the studio holding a triangle.....so there dat go!

Yeah a lot of those producers don't sample. They hire musicians to replay the sample, so like prah said der dat go.

I am thankfull for all of your help... I thought it might be the triton as well... but, Man. I don't know.

I am gona keep lookin. I have heard these sounds on a lot of songs.

I did a lot of searching on the web, then I called some music stores in here in Portland and the instrument is called a Flexatone. You can get them for about $20 - $30. I could not find any on good samples or wavs of it online.
