I want to know if its possible to do this without it being obvious. Some of the tracks supposedly containing hidden subliminals are blatantly unintentional. Ive come to think it would be DAMN hard to do this without it being straight up obvious. When its done intentionally you can tell...you can hear it, without a doubt. Anyone think it can be done on the sly???

If you dont know what backmasking is...

'Backmasking (also known as backward masking)[1] is a recording technique in which a sound or message is recorded backward onto a track that is meant to be played forward. Backmasking is a deliberate process, whereas a message found through phonetic reversal may be unintentional.

Backmasking was popularized by The Beatles, who used backward vocals and instrumentation on their 1966 album Revolver.[2] Artists have since used backmasking for artistic, comedic, and satiric effect, on both analog and digital recordings. The technique has also been used to censor words or phrases for "clean" releases of songs.

Backmasking has been a controversial topic in the United States since the 1980s, when allegations from Christian groups of its use for Satanic purposes were made against prominent rock musicians, leading to record-burning protests and proposed anti-backmasking legislation by state and federal governments. Whether backmasked messages exist is in debate, as is whether backmasking can be used subliminally to affect listeners.' - Wikipedia

Prince had it on his purple vinyls.

You can do it too.

Finish a complete song. record your voice or message to a seperate track in your daw, reverse it, lower the volume or something, filter, whatever, streatch it along your WHOLE completed song timeline.

render the whole thing. When played forward you won't even notice it, BARELY. When the completed song is played backwards very fast then you'll hear the backmasked message. It's a million different ways to accomplish this. Just think about a way and do it.

back masking sounds cool but it doesnt work on a subliminal level because the brain carnt 're reverse' it back the right way,
but if your message is just low enough so you can only barely hear it and not reversed it will work, just look at all the company's online that sell music cds with subliminal messages for shops etc, you should compress your subliminal vocal parts so the odd words dont pop out now and then, and test your song with headphones

respect for the responses guys...

i wasnt really interested in doing it myself, i wondered if any artists have ever done it to sell records, give subliminals to listeners...and if so on what level...

As for the brain being able to re-reverse words...Im not so sure, Im not saying your wrong but i might add that our brains can do an awful lot without us knowing. For example when you watch CNN and you see the reporter, the feed bar on the bottom and the little video box on the top right your brain takes all that in. Even if your just focussing on the reporter and listening to them, subconsciously you will remember it all. Under hypnosis you could probably be made to recall every book on your bookshelf or every record you own, even though right now you couldnt say them aloud off the top of your head. Our minds are very powerful!

Anyway the whole hoo-ha about it has died down since back in the day...but theres some strange ones...im sure everyone on here loves this tune deep down ;)

I took the above as accidental. More down to the way vowels sound reversed or something along thsoe lines...

Nuff people seem to say Jay-Z has subliminals in his tracks...apparently theres one on the Grey Album mix by Danger Mouse...

Now i dont own this album so i cant try it or verify...if anyone does...reverse that ish!

So whagwan with these? the first i dont buy 100% the second im not sure...
