WAV format, just delete the 1000 PGM file. I don't think it will work with 2xl

use MPC editor to create a new pgm or use the MPC to re save the samples with its own pgm
looks like the MPC 1000 has propiretary pgm files only to be used on there machine

Ok I love layering 808's under my kicks too but I haven't been able to make it work right since I switched to the MPC from software. I used to take a kick I sampled and use sound forge to to a spectrum analysis and find out it was, say, a C note. Then I would take a 808 kick and change the pitch until it was a C note too. Then I would timestretch it to the exact duration of the sampled kick. Then I would EQ both so the lowest frequency of the sampled kick cuts off where the highest frequncy of the 808 is. Then I would put a little compression on them together and save it as one kick.
Can you do anything like that on a MPC and if not what other gear do I need to do this without going back to my computer?
Anyone?

You can do the same thing in the mpc as in sound forge (at least in part by using the tune and the simult settings), you just have to use your ears not your eyes. In many ways thats harder but it'll sound better in the end...
But a question: why not stick with soundforge for sample work and then use the mpc for sequencing/playing your samples. Did you trade your computer for the mpc or what?

tools -> synthesis -> simple
create a sine wave then cut and paste special -> mix
with the original kick then trim the end

Descartes you got it man it was a tradeoff. Now I do still have access to computers at friends studios and such, but I really want to see what I can do with just a MPC in the comfort of my bedroom.
I feel you on that "ears instead of eyes" bizness, but I had grown accustomed to that precision of being able to EQ precisely so that layers sit in the mix with no "mud"
Maybe it's all in my head though I'm a rookie not an engineer... Maybe this perfectionism is slowing me down, I'ma play with the tune and filter tonight and try layering drums that way....
EZ

How would you save the kicks as one file?

You can do a paste special and mix the 808 right into the same file as the kick.
