Cutz n' Stuff (new at this stuff)

Hello, I want to add some cuts to my song, but I don't know how to do it, I understand that I just need one turntable, and that's all I know. Do I need a specific needle, butter rags or stuff like that?, how should I set up my mixer eq?, please let me know

What gear do you have now. If you dont have a recorder, its a pain in the ass to sample your cuts. You are right you will only need one table. For needles you can't go wrong with the ortofon concords, or the shure m-447s. Slip mats are up to you man! I got a few pairs, and my favorite are the red technics ones that I had for like 8 years. They are pretty slick and hold the record nice so you can juggle, mix, cut, and have a lot of control over your vinyl. Some cut heads swear by butta rugz or sewer slimes. It is a personal preference man.

I have a MPC, 1 turntable, a dj mixer, and a Mackie 1642 then I record everything to my computer. Can I record/sample the Cuts into my mpc? or can I record it in my computer after the song is done?

the table i juss ordered looks like it has RCA cables. what would I plus these into so I can sample? Would I plug it directly into my recorder? I use a tascam 488 to record. and if so, what inputs would I use? thanks!!!

Dont sample you cuts, its a pain in the ass. Just record them. I record my cuts right into the comp, and sample out of the AUX output on pro tools so I do not have to rewire everything.

you are still gonna need a lil mixer to boost the line level sound..........the 488 has phantom power for the mics.......but if you get a connection cable that would transfer rca to the balanced trs mic cable it may work for you

aight bet. i got a mixer already. everything runs through that and then into my 488. i should have got 2 the last time i was at radio shack. oh well...thanks

if you mean scratch well dont think that it will take you a few weeks even months to learn how to cut then you are wrong.... It takes alot of time just to learn one scratch technique.....

Yeah man, it took me 2 yrs to get where Im at now, and I at least practice everyday for 1 hour. Sometimes 4-8 hours. (bein unemployed RULES). I am gettin fast, but I got lots to learn. I am starting to crab and flare nice, but still need LOTS of work. You should check out,

Dope a$$ tutorials. It does take mad time to get that ish fast and soundin proper. You cant by some decks and start battlin mutha**** or recording in 3 - 12 months and even then you will suck. Get them now so you will be dope in 2 yrs.

It help to like hum melodys in your head while cuttin. and start on the 1 and end on a 4. Like release the sound on the 4. Or if its a two beat sound on the 2. You gotta scratch like playin an instrument, use the pitch slider and play melodys. Also mark your records with a sticky dot, you get em at staples, and then but that ish on the first sound of a record at 12 o'clock on the label or draw a line. Yo I drew like little lines at 12, 3, 6, 9, on the turntable itself, (looks like crosshairs), and now when I scratch with a dot or line on a record, I can backspin more accuratley and cut quicker. Oh and the ish that your scratchin should be the same bpms that you are playin. So when you release the sound it will play on beat. I use like funk breaks over little 4 bars beats from the MPC looping, and just scratch with the funk. I juggle snares from the funk on top of the MPCs snares.
