No, the USB device on the 1000 is a slave, so essentially it acts like a really big version of those key chain memory devices. It's actually just a Compact flash reader/writer. It's nothing special! It's just an easier way to transfer files back and forth from your PC. You might actually like the 1000 because of this.

do have to make a programs for the mpc on the pc or load individual pads and then make the programs.

You can do both! If you want to make a program for your sounds you can get a MPC program maker for your MPC. Then you export the program and sounds straight to the CF card via USB.

yo Lou-One whats up, just wondering if you have any idea where to find one of those programs that allows you to creat mpc 1000 programs on your pc.....i could really use something like that....anyways...get back to me if you know ...thanks a lot...peace

It's kind of confusing at first. There's a few things you have to know to get it to work for you.
On the left hand column you choose which folder you want to open and the sounds you want to make a PGM with.
You click on the WAV file you want then drag it the pad you want it on.
When you want to save a PGM you can do it in the same folder that you have your wav files. Just click transfer at the top left corner. Find the folder with the WAV files. In the file name field type in what you want the PGM file to be named. But you MUST put ".PGM" after the name or it won't work. Click OPEN (this is the confusing part, there is no option for save) It will say this program does not exist would you like to create it, click yes. Then another confusing part...It will say Error -1. Don't worry about it, just click it away. If you open up the folder the PGM file will be there and it will work no problem for you.
Also you can export directly to your MPC if you have the USB hooked up. Just follow the directions above, but instead pick the F drive for where you want to "OPEN" your file and choose the apprpriate folder and BAM it will transfer the wav files and the new PGM right onto your CF card for you.
When your mapping out WAV's on the pads I suggest selecting autoplay so that you make sure you got the right sounds where you want. You can adjust various params and such, and the program has a few other functions, but I'll let you figure that out!
