Poltergeist Carol-ann TV sound effect !

Does anyone no how to achieve that effect like they did in poltergeist when the little girl was in the TV. it sounds like the vocals start slow with reversed reverb the come up real fast ?

i have heard the effect used so much and i never really got the concept of how it is done.

i dont really know what the technique is called, so im not exactly sure how to search for it .

I know the effect from a hardware reverb. I was called reverse reverb. Oh wait I found something on youtube

I've never seen a vst that can do this.

It's called gated reverse reverb. My little Behringer mixing board has it as an onboard effect. Here's how to do it in Logic:

Convolution reverbs usually allow you to reverse the impulse responses. There's probably a bit more going on than just reverb though.

the fx units try to approximate it but this is not true reverse reverb.
one way to do it is to reverse your track and send it to a reverb. record the reverb 100% wet.
now you take that recording, reverse it again, and line it up how you want with the original track.
this is the only way to do it properly because a real time effect will never be able to 'anticipate' the sounds that are coming in to make it work right.
the fl studio video posted above is another way to do this even though they mix the dry and wet together.

doing it with a reverse convolution effect would be cool too but i think you would want to seriously delay the dry signal AFTER it is sent to the effect so that the reverb happens first.

Back in the day, I did this with a 4-track recorder and a Boss guitar reverb petal. You would flip the tape around put reverb on a vocal and flip the tape back. Easier done than explained.
