Filtering Drum Hits

This question has been done, but there are different cats on the forum now so: What settings do you all use to filter your drums? Do have specific settings that you use: like 75 for kicks 110 for hi-hats, 100 for snares, or do you filter at all?

I try not to filter my drums at all. The only time I filter drums is if im gonna layer drum sounds together and I want my kicks to thump...

Usually I use like anywhere between 94 and 98, just to take off the extra hiss some vinyl has. Then I put the resonant filter to like 3, to give it some UUMMMFFFFHHH.... usually I take the tuning down also, between -1 and -5... my attack usually at around 3 (I like to keep it kinda sharp), and my decay at like 9 or 10. Try it and let me know how you do...

man we are like on the same level yo! some soundz require some tweeking but what toecutter said pretty much sums it up

I base my drum filtering around the sample, if you come across a mediocre sample, you can customize and filter the drums , and it will make the sample sound 10 times better, also i've noticed through my expirience that a lot of times if i get the hats filtered right, it serves as a good guidline as to how i want my drums to sound.

like to clip my samples using +2/3 attack and hard decay (10 ++ 50!!) to make the snares clap.

Use the same attack on the kicks to make em stand up and accentuate the "thud" part of em. - I find this also works well when you layer em up with a clipped 808 kick. (BUMP)

I'm a newbie in filtering techniques and I don't really know much about it yet. I don't even know what to "filter" means".

I have an MPC 4000 and I guess I can filter things in it but I am not sure.

What software can I use to "filter sounds" ? Can it be done under Soud Forge ?
