I am truly in heaven, I really couldn't imagine a better system for chopping samples.

http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/logicpro/

With the introduction of "Flextime" Apple has developed what is probably the best Sample Chopping system I have ever used, I will never even open Recycle again.

Basically the workflow goes like this:

1. Open Logic

2. Drag in what you would like to sample, or find it right in Logic's Browser (it will convert it if necessary)

3. Find the section you want to sample, drum break, verse, whatever, and separate it out.

4. Select that region, choose FlexTime, and voila, Logic will go ahead and do a basic chop, Just like a MPC's autochop, all based on the transients.

5. The chop will probably (hopefully) not be exactly what you are looking for, so you just double click the Region to open the Sample Editor.

6. Within the sample editor, you can now easily adjust and preview all the chop points, just drag and drop them, double click to delete, and command click to add a new one. If you want to preview a chop, just double click it, and press the Space bar.

7. Go through your entire sample, adjusting in and out points of each chop

8. When you are done, just right click the region, and choose, Slice at Transient Markers, to separate each sound into a new region.

9. Select all of those regions and have Logic automatically make a Sampler Instrument out of them, it will create a new software instrument track, ready to use, and you can still easily make edits if you like.

10. Have fun. Save your new chops for a later date.

If you use software in any part of your music making workflow, I highly highly recommend picking up the new Logic Studio. Sure there are other options, but it is just sooo choice.

I think I will make a video showing this process, just chopping up a drum break or something.

Sounds like what Sound Forge has been doing for YEARS now.

Please do cuz rite now it seems like "similar to MPC autochop" is the strongest selling point

Everything is Non-Destructive in Logic and you can overlap anything and everything. JJ0S2 is fantastic, but come on now, as far as options go Logic is hard to beat.

Soundforge is not even close to the system they have developed in Logic. If you can I highly recommend trying it out.

Do you have to change your workflow a bit from other systems? Yes. But to be perfectly clear, if you can't do what you want to do in Logic Studio you probably can't do it with anything. I have found that most peoples complaints and issues with software usually comes from never actually using it in anger.

And why the hell does me posting this only bring up useless negative responses? That is also the problem. Keep an open mind people, believe it or not, you may actually learn something useful.

In my opinion there is no better software available. The only thing that would make it even better for sampling is if AKAI would make a nice MPD/MPC sampler plugin that would make it slightly easier to organize samples across pads, but it is still a very easy process.

I will definitely post something up showing the process.

you cannot control people's responses.

I am all for learning something.

all you can do is put out the information, and let it go.

Well hopefully you didn't take my response as that.

Different people read text different.

But I didn't mean it to sound negative.

Only bad thing about Logic is that I'd have to buy a Mac to own it,......I don't foresee that happening anytime soon, so I'll stick with Sonar 8 and my Mpc,.....New Logic looks sweet though. :D
