QUESTION FOR THE TUTOR ????

I have herd you mention the DPS16, what is the sound quality like?  Is there any build in compressor effects for recording vocels?  and finaly what is the quality of mastering the final cd.... Just looking for your overall opinion.

 I have read other review on the net, but respect your honest review of the machine...... are there huge differences from the DPS24???

last question, how easy is it to work and how is the timing when hooked up to an mpc???

Sound quality is superb -you can record up to 24 bit/96kHz

The effects are okay - nothing really stands out though - there's a built-in compressor and mic-preamps, so recording vocals is easy - but I'd still recommend an outboard compressor when recording. There's even an autotune type effect.

Mastering- it has a multiband compressor - but I've never used it, in fact, I use my PC for mastering, as the DPS16 outputs WAV files.

It's VERY easy to use - and the timing is rock solid with the MPC.

For: Easy to use, good sound quality, all-in-one solution, good timing, nice effects, nice eq, loads of virtual tracks, dedicated to do one job and does it well, reliable, portable

Against: No insert points so external compressors cannot be added after recording, only during the tracking process (this was a bad ommission). Limited expansion - you are stuck with 16 tracks and 4 effect busses - compared to a PC with unlimited tracks and plug-ins (hardware allowing), slower processing than a PC (things like backup, samplerate conversion, timestretching, etc take a long time compared to a PC).

I love mine, but I still need a PC to cover other tasks - but for reliablilty and solid timing, it cant be beat.

I dont know much about the DPS24 - I'd imagine it's quite a step up feature wise.

Are you saying the fact that the DPS16 outputs WAV files is a bad thing? If not, what are you trying to say?

i just got a mpc and im finally starting to think about adding stuff to it. Like a turntable, mixer. Any suggestions and whats the best way to hook up a turntable to get the clearest samples

No it's not a bad thing - it's good as many multitrackers do not output WAV files, so you are stuck with only editing them within the multitracker
