cool, do any of y'all mess with sample CD's? Also when sampling off
vinyl, do you go into the rca ins of the mpc 2000xl?

records are cheaper then sample cd's they also have more obscure ish on them ( if you find the right ones). no go with sample cd's for me anyway.
I have a 1000 and use XLR's from my mixer they have a better signal, but if that's the connection you have rca's would work fine.

not a big fan of sample CD's.. although sometimes i use them for a couple of drum breaks.. which i end up choppin up myself with recycle anyways.. as for melodic samples on sample CD's.. takes away all the fun of finding them yourself.. so if i did use samples CD's.. it'd strictly be for drums... and even then it dont feel quite right unless i REALLY make it my own..

I mainly use old funk and jazz records. Sometimes I also use sample cds but only in the 'background' of the beat. In my opinion most sample cds sound too clean. I love the dirty sound of old vinyl....

There are no rca inputs in the mpc. Just 1/4 jacks.

Sample CD's tend to be wack, the a good idea kinda but in practice they just sound mad generic cos often the companies that make em dont listen to hip hop like the fans so they dont really understand the types of sounds ur looking for.

thats why u got to dig and develop ur own taste, or u gonna end up sound like everyone else that makes beats.

on the other hand i do recomend buying cds that contain one hit drum sounds just to give u a foundation soundset, but forget about the shit like vinylistics and the like cos most of that shit sounds overdone and kinda fake.

I make my sounds. You will notice if you listen carefully all the sounds are the same stuff with heavy effects. Not a bad thing. Layers and layers of stuff that over the generations have compression then verb with delays. I make my sounds the fancy and the simple. Kicks are from basics unless I really like something I heard. But I know how to use an EQ and a Compressor. Thanks to the crate diggers, the opertunity to go farther faster by them sharing thier techniques a new guy can learn in weeks what took me years. I just had to give you guys props.

I used to rely on sample CDs heavily, but only for drums... I slowly started developin my own sounds and layerin them with the sounds from the sample CDs to add my own flavor to the sounds... Now I'm creating the sound almost completely myself... Although I don't really care... For me if you make tight beats... Ain't nobody gonna crae if it came from a sample CD or some rare Polish Jazz album... To me that's a personal preference.

get one of those minidisc recorders, carry it around with you and sample the world.
