Ghost kicks, layers........

somebody help, what are ghost layers, ghost kick, and so forth
i always read them in posts but don't know what they are
i know someone can tell me or give me an example, you guys are pretty knowledgable

in simple terms, it like layering. Imagine a snare sound, now add a low volume clap to it.. you don't want the clap to over-ride the snare, (lower the volume) but it changes the original snares character. the listener may not even notice the clap sound at all, but as the producer, you know it's there, but it's really not... it's a ghost.. (insert scary music here) haha

The above description is more a case of layering

I'd describe ghost notes more as hits programmed at low/faint levels/volumes that either come b4 or after the primary sounds/ associated pattern. When used, they kind of add dynamics to the overall sound with disturbing the natural flow.

Ghost notes can come as a variety of forms...Ie Kicks...Hats...Snares

yeah me too...i had my snare, and i added another one over the top which i had sampled, and it definitely made a difference even though you can't tell it's there. the sampled snare was kind of "airy"..like it had some noise and the way i explain it is this noise shows through on the original snare, opening it up.

^^that makes sense to me at least
