Zombie Nation using MPC live

I was recently saw that zombie Nation is selling his MPC 4000 and instead using a 1000 live. I have watched some videos of him playing live with the 4000 and i was wondering how he might be using it, i'm pretty sure hes also using a pioneer effects unit there too....

how do you think would he handle blending between tracks since you cant beatmatch etc?

i'm sure he would play a few tracks off CD in these sets but how would he then blend back into the MPC keeping everything in sync??

cd players with midi exist.....id guess whatever he is using, the mpc is synced....unless hes using the mpc to play one shots

yeh i could, but i was also interested in how other people who perform similar techno/electro live go about it. i usually just switch sequences while the MPC is playing but i'm sure some people have different ways of working.......

i use pioneer CDJ's like most DJ's and they don't have any MIDI, so i'm not convinced anyone is doing that!

you mentioned him possibly using a cd player..... but i wasnt at any gigs so what do i know.....only going on what u said....lol

Everything comes from the MPC and travels round the gear while the KP3 loops between MPC sequences.

ahh i see, i'll have to check out the kaoss pad then, i remember using the original one when i was younger but i havn't used the new version.

it seems that the kaoss pad 3 is pretty popular with people using MPC for live techno, octave one use it too:

i just checked the sp-404 out but it doesn't look as user friendly and costs around the same so looks like the kaoss pad is the way to go....

I love my KP3, it's what got me into sampling in the first place!
But be aware that it only has four sample banks and each one can only hold up to 16 beats (less if the BPM is really slow.) I think the sp404 has far more sample memory.

The KP3 is great for grabbing a short sample, then looping it and mangling it. My favourite feature is time-slicing a sample into 8 pieces then turning individual pieces on and off to create a new pattern.

And of course it's a good FX unit, as that's its main purpose
