For those of you who scratch on your beats

I was wondering, is that something you do through your MPC as a sample or do you put the cuts on after the beat through a recorder or something? I'm looking to start possibly adding some to a couple of my beats but am not sure the best way to go about it.

not sure how others do it but , when i lay scratches on my tracks i record my beats on to 8 track then scratch over a few tracks and mix it down,i have also sampled some scratches and drop them in as a track , and drop them in and out, i think it all denps on how you want to do this, good luck

I do it my multi tracker, but i do have sample cuts. Ill sample my kick being babied or forwarded and use that as a fill every now and then. For complex cuts, i do it all in my multi tracker, a few takes for every 4 to 8 bars with a different sample or phrase. Pan one track to left and one to the right, and it sounds like 2 djs are cutting back to back. Sounds really good if you are teasing the next sample at the end of the first one.

yeah multi trackin is key. I just track on 2 tracks tghorught out the whole song. Just do like 2 bars on one track then do 2 on antoher and so on. I also just copped an Akai S2000 Sampler to also catch scratches while my mpc is playin somethin. Then i can just use it in the mpc or make the s2000 play it via midi

not to steal a thread or anything but I"m looking to get a harware multitrack. I already have a copy of adobe audition. I wanna spend like six bills .
I guess my question is which interface would have the most cost effective or should i just get a hardware tascam type thing. Which one would have better sound/ have the best converters for the money. I don't wanna get trapped with flat sounds from bad converters in the card ya know.

look for a used akai dps16, best multitracker ever built.

anyways,any multitrack, make sure you get a cd burner with it right away, otherwise its pointless, or youll just end up using your computer.

a sound card on a computer is most cost effective. get the most possible inputs and outputs for 6 bills, and software included. Ive got an audiophile 2496. ITs nice, but i need more inputs so i can track all at once. So figure out how many outputs you have and aim for that. cause i know you will probably consider the price adn think "i can get away with that amount of inputs" but in the end you will wish you had more.

hells yeah. More than 2 inputs becomes ness. Im havin the 2 track problem now. The dps 12 is the hot shit.
