filtering ?

i got the mpc 2000 xl and i know its got filters but other than creating bass notes ...wut are they good 4 ? I tried filtering a high hat from a chopped kick by bringin it down 2 zero but it jus killed da whole feel of da kick...how do yall use this feature ?

I use it for removing frequencies. If there is something on top of a kick or a bass note the filter is good for removing some of that other sound. I also use the filter with dynamics for drum tracks and have the velocity control the filter and other parameters.

Yo Murda you can filter a high hat off a kick with it... just try something higher than 0...

i use the filters all the time. you can really create some unique sounds with just some tweaking. great way to cover samples

Sometimes it helps to take out some hiss or a bit of noise from dirty vinyl, if a record I sample has too much surface noise I filter most of it out with the filter.

Use em to make your clean samples fit your track. Example, you sample a live band, but want to add a cymbal from your keyboard.. it's gonna be too clean, but if you adjust the volume (velocity) and the filter correctly, you can make it fit the track like it was suppose to really be there.

good tip roxstar, off on a tangent a little, do what roxstar said, make it blend a little better by sampling some "air" off the record you got the live stuff from and layer it with the filtered cymbal and youre in business
