MPC Beginner : Drum technique

Guys,
I'm new user of MPC 2500. I would like to know the different drum technique. when and where do i need to set drum, kick, snare,hi hat
Do you a video showing some hip-hop and dirty south technique
or do you have drum patterns layout like put the kick on every 4 measures

This is just my opinion...

There is no certain technique that will always work. If i make a beat, i usually start with the sample. I chop it up, play around with it, and then eventually record a sequence with just the sample playing how i want it.

After that i will start selecting drums (while my sequence is playing) and build a drumkit. This way i can select drums that match the sound of the sample.

Usually the sample has a rhythm itself, this is why i said above, that there is no certain technique that will always work. You should "follow" the rhythm of the sample... or in other words, the sample will tell you where you can add drums (you have to listen to the rhythm of the sample).

Another advice i can give is to try and play your drums live before you record them. Pretty much like you'd have a drumset and would just play along to some music. If all you ever do is record drums track by track (records hi-hats, then snare on another track, then kick, etc), but you never play it all at once, you will never get a feeling for drumming.

I'm sure there's certain techniques. You could even try and listen to beats you like, and then try to copy the drum patterns... but in my opinion, this won't teach you a lot, and you would just sound like anybody else.

I'm a beginner too, but I think the basics are snare on time 2 and 4, kick on 1 and 3(and everywhere else you want), and hat on every time or every 2 times.
I agree with Jibber, try to imitate some drum patterns that you like. And also, listen to the drummers from other styles: funk, soul, jazz...

I'm not into dirty south at all, so I can't help you for that, but do a research on youtube, I think you will find some tutorials

stay away from that diiiiiirty south ish.... its no good & its all trance chords slowed down....

when and where you need to set the drums/snares/hi hats??? R U SERIOUS guy?

you bought a $1500 machine and your asking us how you need to use it??? you put the drums/snares/hi hats wherever YOU want them. hell if everybody did the same or relatively same patterns, no one would wanna listen to sh1t anymore...

buy a real drum set then learn to feel

lol, you dont need a real drumkit to feel, and you dont need to emulate how a drummer play to make a killer groove.. The beauty of it is that you can go beyond what any drummer could do, and because its a sampler, you can also sound like non existing drumkits.

Just saying there are no rules in how to use the mpc.

The dirty south 'technique' can easily be replicated with FL Studio, so buying an MPC may have been a waste of money. Also, asking how to program a drum pattern is not recommended for two reasons: 1. People will make fun of you and that might hurt your feelings. 2. Even if somebody does spoon-feed you a pattern, there's no learning in that and you'll basically be hurting your creativity by stunting it's growth.

But for real, the 2500 is a beast, so use the sh!t out of that thing. Learn it inside and out, and then dirty south jams will be a breeze to make.
