Boss DR-660 Samples (255 sounds)

I finally finished sampling the sounds from my old Boss DR-660 drum machine. Here's a link if anybody wants them.

Yeah, i've seen these sounds around, but the set I found only had 217 sounds. They are also named differently and I was too lazy to try to figure out which sounds were missing.

I was bored this weekend and this seemed to be a good way to get some practice using Audacity. It was also fun to play around with the DR-660 for a while -- I haven't used it for a long time.

NOTE: I updated to original post to point to a new zip file as soon as I realized I had accidentally uploaded the wrong file (the sounds in the new zip have been amplified more -- I think a few people downloaded the old file before I had a chance to replace it)

Possibly the thinnest sounding drum machine ever made! I know because I've had mine stored away in its box for the past 10 years!!

For sure but that can be nice for layering.

Not knocking the fun around here, but who'd want those secondary roland sounds anyway?

My apologies. It seemed like the most appropriate place based on the forum description:

"Crate Diggers
Talk and share knowledge on rare records, sources of new samples, vinyl, diggin, etc"


Production techniques doesn't really seem like the right place either -- a sound sample isn't a technique.

Surfing in net in searching of full collection dr-660 sounds. These drum machines are dirt cheap now, and if i find at least couple of nice sounds, i would like to buy it
How often do you use it? Does it have nice sequencer? What about shuffle? Step time sequencing is possible?

Used to have a DR-770, basically an "improved" version of DR-660. I think it's basically the same sounds + some extra fx. Actually, one of the first things I did when I got my MPC was sampling all the 770 sounds, just for practice... Still use a lot of those sounds for layering. Most sounds are quite usable - yes, you could call it thin, on the other hand, it sounds quite clear and clean.

Sequencer is ok (I think 770 has more pattern memories than 660), it is quite easy to write patterns, realtime and step. The pads are annoying to play, they do not feel dynamic at all, my fingers hurt after just a few minutes of programming. They do have some dynamic sensitivity (like 4-5 velocity levels) though.
