Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

hello all... I've been learning slowly but surely how to use the beast. The biggest problem I'm having is with trying to make click free loops. Most drum loops are cool, as the high volume on the downbeat covers up any clickage. But for melodic loops, it's been happening almost every time. I'm trying to get the loops down just right, but no matter where I try to tweak the start and end points, I still get a click at the loop point. Anyone have any suggestions?

Peace

Add 1 or 2 clicks' worth of early decay to the end of the sample, (found uner the paramaters page of the program screen, after tapping the pad that's giving you problems) that usually fixes it. Otherwise you could trim the end of the sample so it's silent, there are a few fixes all based around screwing with levels and fades on attack and decay.

For some reason, when I adjust the decay and attack, the changes I've made only apply to a single play through of the sample, and do not have any effect once the sample begins the loop mode. Can the filter parameters be applied to a loop? I can't imagine, if the filter was working, why there would still be a click at the loop start point.

Whats up Rach, hope you're still reading this haha.

I just started using loops on the MPC myself. (I'd chopped em up but not really used them in song composition) Check out my first track using a loop at http://metro-bands.com/audio/synful.mp3

My guess about your "loop mode only" trouble with the sample is that it could be fixed by adjusting the To: field on the loop page (the left number, not the right one) a few clicks in, or padding the beginning with extra blank sound. I've fixed a few loop issues this way. Not quite sure why it happens. The envelope, filter, resonance, and tuning should maintain their settings across every instance of the note. The Program settings are applied AFTER the Trim settings, so they can be used as a default override of sorts. These settings will be applied to looped or unlooped sounds. Period.

Another thing to note is, try using Note Off for the voice overlap setting and turn off the Loop parameter in the Trim settings. This allows you to do more interesting stuff with the loop, like cut it off early or stutter it into a segment. Just like Loop mode, hold it down as long as you want it to play, only it won't automatically play again while the pad is down. For triggering full copies of the loop sound, use the regular note-triggering Mono for self-cancelling samples and Poly for crazy echoey doubling of the loop, which could be useful if programmed correctly.

I'm now pretty well versed in the ways of loop-fixing on the MPC, so hit me with any problems you do encounter here on out.

make sure your loop points are about even. That is my starting point and i will adjust by ear from there. If you are heading in the right direction, most of the time you can hear your click fade away to nothing. Sometimes all you can get is a small click.

Im just starting to use my looping on my mpc and im getting frustrated and i have checked everywhere!!!

i put alot of attack and decay and no matter what it still clicks when i play it over, in the param screen. it fades out at the end and i still hear the click nice and loud. So do i need to tack on a super small portion of silence at the end or the begging of the sample?? will that eliminate the clicking??

or am i not looping right??

o yea im tryin to loop like melodies, like like a 2bar piano melody for example. When i listen to music with loops it seems like theres a small hesitation or pause before it loops, like a real small one that still makes it smooth, but it takes a pause ......so is that a small silence added in there??
