down south beat tempo/bpm

I usually dot do too many downsouth type of tracks being from NewYork,but alot of cats this way flow to those type of instrumentals. I used a metronome but i couldnt figure out if the tempo/bpms were really fast or really slow. Whats an apx tempo/bpms to track one of those type of beats?

Many producers program beats in 4/4 double-time which may confuse you if you're trying to work out the tempo.

In simple terms, double-time uses two bars to program a one bar drum pattern, effectively giving you a higher note resolution. In other words use a faster tempo than normal and only have one snare/ clap in each 'bar'.

Or you can adjust the time signature from the standard 4/4 to 8/4 and experiment with that.

There are other ways, but that would be telling...

Yeah, the actually tempo is quite slow but the hats make it sound faster then it actually is.

U can also program a down south hihat pattern using note repeat. Play it back and adjust the sequencer's main bpm untill u find the tempo ur looking for.

The tempo is quite fast in reality but the single snare/ clap per bar makes it seem slower than it actually is.

Check out some tracks programmed in double-time, you'll soon get it.

Just remember there is not a snare/ clap on beat 2 and 4 of each bar although it may sound like it.

i do it at 140 generally and up to 160
1 main snare/clap per bar
u can still do the background snares and claps tho
