Methods For Sampling...

what is your main way of sampling records/cd's/sounds etc?

I mainly listen to the intro see if it sounds like its good then skip thru the song and if i end up sampling more than a HIT/Sound from the song i'll listen to the whole song and continue sampling pieces i might want to use... i usually speed it up to 45 or 78 on soul records

also have found some crazy samples pressing reverse too lol

also anyone with a microphone - how do u sample with it? like how big of a room do u record in? where do u put the mic in relation to what ur sampling? i almost got one today but i didnt

Depends on the record. I buy records to listen to and records to sample from. The records to sample from sometimes have 1 or 2 songs worth to listen. The records to listen to are usual full of samples

A nice "mic trick" is adding room to samples (very nice for short drumsamples). Play the short drumsamples (loud) and place the mic far away from the speaker (experiment with thaat. you can also place the mic in the next room and record it. mix this recorded roomsound to the original drums, render it together and bam..real room on your drums.

Usually I listen to records while my MPC is turned on.Hanging around or doing dishes type of stuff. If my ear catches something I sample it. Sometimes I really go through records quickly, doing some random needle drops. If I like the song or parts of it I listen to the complete song closely and play with pitch and EQ.

I buy records I like and listen to the whole record. To me you can't skim through a record. You either finish it, or leave it to die as an artifact of sound.

I basically import anything I need to sample. Yeah, call me lazy but the way I go about it works efficiently for what I need it to do, and that's what music making is all about...less hassles = more fun.
