drum kit managment

i'm having a problem with going thru many drum programs on my mpc2000. I simply have to many drums kits.. which slows down my speed of work. i'm considering buying a drum module to ease the burden a so that 75% of the percussion sounds are in place and i can just switch bass kicks and snares for each project. Does anyone have any suggestions and methods as to how they are working with the programs.. Also what woud be a good drum module other than the mo phatt. The style of music is hip-hop and some r&b.. i've been looking at the alesis dmpro.. any help and suggestions would be appreciated

The 2000 has no file folder management like the xl. What I do is make kits and when I alter them when writing a song I rename the program the original program name + the sequence. Also partition your drives. to like 25 megs/ partition. If you have a zip drive buy plenty of zips. If you have a computer get a zip drive for that. What I am thinking about doing is have zips with just certain types of sounds on them (no programs) then have separate zips with programs and sounds on them. Also when in a computer never give anything a name more than 8 characters. If you have sample cds with 8+ characters you should rename them before putting them in the mpc.

There are millions of drum modules out there. Emu drums are pretty hot right now. Besides the mophatt you can try the planett phatt, and the proteus 2000. Emu drums have a thick darker sound to them.

Personally for hip hop I like Ensoniq drum sounds. Try finding a used mr rack. Even an old ts 10 has good drum sounds. Ensoniq has really strong kicks.

The Novation drum station have some good 808 sounds. (from what I hear)

Rolandwise get an xv5080 and find a used dance card. Also the latin card, techno card and hip hop card is nice. Roland sounds can be pretty bright and thin but for percussion with the right cards (eg latin, world) this can kick A--

And if you want live drums sounds try the alesis dm pro. I had a qs 6. The sounds were thin but it had a few unique sounds in it.

So you are going to trade scrolling for kits on an MPC to scrolling for kits in a drum module?

As a former owner of modules, it really does not make it any easier.

I use MPC Editor to quickly assemble kits on the PC and then just transfer them to teh MPC for loading.

that's true, even on a soundmodule, you'll still be seaching for where that patch is you used on that one song.....
Why not get a cheap second sampler? You say you've already got loads of kits so it makes sense to keep using them.
I've got a 12-bit sampler hooked up to my mpc, and it's got a few hundred off my fav drumsamples loaded at all times. And you're never stuck with wack preset sounds.

Does anybody have these sounds (mo phatt, planett phatt, proteus 2000, mr. rack, ts10) available on a program or kit for the 2000xl? Or maybe, is there a site where I can cop these.
