Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

So I am very new to beat making. I purchased an MPC 1000 this past summer, and I have been working with JJ OS v. 4
I create my basslines by taking a loop and just putting it on two different pads, and taking the highs out on one pad, and taking the lows out on one pad, and simply just recording them over eachother. I feel like there has got to be better techniques for making fat basslines?

Also so far I have only been able to layer a drum loop and a sampled loop, I was wondering if anyone had any tips as far as creating a 2 layer loop?

Thanks, guys.

well that technique has it's place (the low end theory), but nowadays in hip-hop, the low end theory doesn't survive on it's own...you still need a more pronounced bass sound to really punch through the mix...i would suggest sampling some one-note bass sounds and playing those notes along with your sample...understanding what key you are in will REALLY help as well

Yep, that's the KEY to it all right there.

correct and correct...but also try to get some clean samples of bass sounds, like off of a sample cd...but you can download plenty of free ones if you search da internet
