Mastering in Cool Edit?

what do you guys suggest that I use to help me clean up my audio in Cool Edit 2.0 or Adobe Audition?
currently after I record my beat in I Nomalize and then Hard Limit. Any other suggestions?

What do yo umean by "clean up" your audio?

If yo ugot a noisey signal, then: Soundsoap is a cool plug that learns the "noise" and removes it throught the file. Gates are good tools to help get a cleaner signal too (and nice for chopping stuff)

AFAIK normalizing will make any background noise more audible.

Maybe that aint what your getting at tho...

actually I was meaning almost like mastering, I have a clean signal but I just wanted to try to get everything in the beat to sound a little better almost like a generic type of mastering

Have a look at the "essential questions... forum" There is a post for pages and pages of making your beats sound better. There isn't one way!

But a good philosophy is Louder does not mean better.

If you are more specific about your problem, then maybe you can get some good advice. Is your mix muddy, do you have width problems, is it size your after...?

use the dynamics processing effect under the amplify, thats the basic mastering effect...

If you are on PC, then a real good mastering solution is T-Racks. All in one mastering tool - Comp, Limit and EQ and kinda nice sounding too. The valves even glow

Both operate the same...But, Adobe Audition 2.0 aloows you to use VST plugins as well as the Direct X.

In terms of mastering, there's no one way to do it...all depends on the music.

try using the hard limit effect under amplification, it can solve some problems and its fun. i really wish cool edit had asio support.. does anyone know if audition will be adding that? it would be the easiest/best software out if so.

this isn't really a cool edit thing, but i have this dsp plugin that i run out of sound forge (but i think its a cross platform plug) called Aural Activator. Wat it does is selectively boost harmonics. when i set it right i've had really good results with it adding the feel of space and making everything sound crisper.

im not that learned with mastering, but what i usually do is run some dynamics processing to get rid of big inaudible transients so i can boost the headroom somewhat, which is basically compression but i prefer to do it step by step, maybe try some aural activation, and normalize at the end. if i feel like it needs more i gotta go back into the beat and fix up sounds...

sometimes its also obvious from looking at the waveform of your beat that you should go in and edit certain sounds, like when a sound thats not really that loud in the mix is huge in the waveform. or you realize your snare has huge transients and when you dynamic process it and normalize your bassline now blows speakers.

i dunno just some thots...
