boonie mayfield (boondoc) drum kit?

I'm thinking about getting a boonie mayfield drum kit cause I have no drums that I like. Anyone know anything about them? I'm low on budget so I gotta make sure this is the right purchase


should I get his first kit or his second?
any other kits you think are better?

Look not disrespect towards Boon doc, but Felly where do you think he gets those drums sounds from? Think about that question for a while.

just google drum kits and youll find tons.

im pretty sure boonies kits are just stock drums eq'd to his liking.

doubt it. if i had to guess i would say their all drums he sampled from records and Eq'd and compressed. i dont think they would be too bad as his drum sounds in his beats are usually very good.

I guarantee you 100% they are not. They have all meticulously been sampled off vinyl. His two drum-kits basically deliver the same kind of raw, sampled drum sounds you hear in most his Youtube vid's.

I know - I have them both!

But as someone else pointed out: think about where he got the drums sounds from... vinyl!! Why don't you go out yourself and sample drum hits and drum loops off of old soul/jazz/rock'n'roll records if you are into the sound of his drum-kits.

I personally own his drum-kits out of laziness. It's not always I feel like sampling a breakbeat when I can just go to the library and grab a sound off of Boon Doc's or M-Phazes' drum-kits.

On the other hand I'm trying to build up my own sound library of sounds I've sampled from vinyl. For too long I've used other producers' sounds and MP3 rips as safety nets. I'm going 100% vinyl now Just for the added frequency spectre and the charm of it. MP3 samples have a tendency to sound "dead".

Apart from that safest guess is that he sampled alot of vinyl and flipped it..

Buy them they'll be dope! Boonie Mayfield is a cunning master of hip hop soul funk and nodding his head on beat. I wish i had them years ago before i started building my own drum library.

You can buy them for now and learn how to make your own in the future. I went through hundreds even thousands of drum samples and loops. Usually, you just have to pick good sounds, layer and/or eq to your liking.

If your on a budget d/l the loop packs in this thread and try layering and eqin them yourself i forget who the op of that topic was but theres 100s of loops in there. Id srill get the boon doc pack for ease of use and to help you learn but but you can build your own kits for free. I do like boon doc but i dont really hear or see him makin big moves or gettin good placements.

Exactly, but this thread is pointless, cause felly sold his 500 because it wasn't a "full production studio" and switched to logic, I posted thread full of drum loops and sounds few months back if anyone really needs drums

True...there is NO shortage of free drums out there.
