Quick Preview

Hi all,

I want to know how everyone is previewing a project on the MPC before you actually load the whole folder to the MPC.

I hate loading a project folder and deciding you don't want to work on that particular project.
Right now the only (quickest) way i can think of is recording the 'Main out' of the MPC (usually the main sequence) and saving the audio into the same folder as the project (I usually name the audio file as 'Song'. So when i want to quickly preview a folder - to see what kind of song i made - I just listen to that audio file before deciding to open the project.

The problem is: When browsing folders, to preview that audio file inside a folder, I have to scroll ALL THE WAY DOWN and find the file.

So how is everyone previewing a folder (project) before deciding to open it. Is there a quicker way? I am on JJ OSXL btw.

Sometimes its hard to gues what you have made from just one sample.
Because I use a lot of samples, it takes awhile to load up the whole folder.

ANy other tips?

Name your shit better and organise better.

Mainly just keep your naming conventions consistent...like all bass drums start with BD then an identifier...leave room for numbers (ie. a bassdrum off a herbie hancock record might be named bdherb01).

You could also keep 'songs' or 'beats' grouped together in a folder. Then you'd know, if its in that folder, it must belong to this beat.

There's no magic 'preview entire folder' trick, so you are just going to have to put in the work and forethought when you make this stuff.

put a 1 at the beggining of the song when naming it, this should bring it to the top of the the list in the folder. Well of course this works with my mpc 1000 running jjos2xl, not sure which mpc you have, or if this works the same in all mpcs.

Thanks Ralph. Yeah i now name the mixdown audio file with a number.
It doesnt bring it to the top of the list, as the 'Project' and 'Program' files are always at the top.
But close enough, at least its now on the top of the 'Sample' list.

Im on the 2500 btw.
