ok i got my mpc last year at christmas and its all starting to click now...
heres a few things which i didnt realise straight away if anyone wants to add to the ideas it'll be gladly accepted, always looking for new techniques...
p.s i may be stating the obvious here but anyway....
1. when i've cut up individual driums i.e bass, snare and hi hat, i time stretch them to as near to my b.p.m as possible which makes em flow better, also if you timestretch again at say 1 and a half times your bpm you can get neater sounding diverse drums (ie if your bpm is 180 stretch the drums to 250 as well as 180 for varied sounds).
2. cutting in... i dont know why but i never did this until recently.... get a beat going, cut in your sounds and alter the pitch so they match before you sample the sound this makes timestretches easier ...
3. dont use 16 levels... its shit you should try and find samples of different notes.
4.when you chop up a sample loop every bit before you start tapping to make sure they all match up properly, the chances are if it loops nicely it'll sound better when you tap out the melody.
well i'm bored of typing now and most people probably already know all this so peace ...
