Not so much a question...

... as a comparison.

i was just wondering the order most people use when making songs on the mpc.

personally...

i get some drums and bang out any rhythm just to get a bpm set.
then i get my main sample ... tweak it,
then i program whatever bass that i need
then i go back to the drums to tap out a proper rhythm in relation to the sample and of course the bass.
from here its all about layering, chopping and restructuring blah blah.

also does anyone else attempt mixing down their tracks as well as they can on the mpc before running it through proper mixing equipment.

Usually, if my idea starts at the MP (which it normally does), I start with the sample. After I chop, I work out the rhythm. Then I add drums that match the sample nicely. Throw in the bassline, bells, & whistles and I'm done.

Most of my *ish is grimey... I have a nice idea of what I want the finished product to sound like. So most of my mixing is done while I'm makin the beat, even keyboard parts. I record'm, sample'm, and chop those to (if thas the sound I'm after jus givin an example).

The sequence of my songs pretty much sound "mixtape'ish" until I finish writing the lyrics. Then I build the song around the recorded lyrics.
