Best Way To Sample/ Record Vinyl On The Go??? Portable

So what do you guys think is the best way to sample on the go? Well it would have to record in wave format and easily transfer to the MPC.

Reason I am asking is because my school library has a whole floor dedicated to vinyl. A couple thousand records are housed there...

Since the records cannot be checked out I take my MPC2500 to school and use there mixers and turntable to sample into my MPC. But.... Im getting tired of taking my huge 2500 with me around to school.

Do you guys know of a better method?

maybe look into the zoom h4/h4n, though expensive.. it has 1/4 inputs and records in wave, mp3, all that stuff.. plus it has combo jacks so if you need to record something using your pair of neumans then it has phantom power as well. the internal mics are also very good for the price and will probably tempt you into the field recording game while you're at it...

that would be the (highest quality / most portable / actually affordable) way I can think of to do it.

I had something like this in mind because they are portable, have a line input to record, USB, MicroSD slot and record in WAV but Im just not sure about the quality of the recording I would be getting?

Laptop + Audio Interface + 1TB HD. Probably not easier to carry but easier to get the most out of the collection, save it, name it etc.

Record 24bit and save as FLAC

Hmmm I like the fact that it has 1/4 inputs. Didnt think that would be an option. Awesome. Though pricey... Maybe I can try eBay or Craigslist.

That would be the same as carrying my MPC2500...

Im trying to find something more portable but still get good quality.

I dont know, stupid guitar center does ip checking and refuses to show me the links..



also I dont know much about tascam and sony portable devices.. but if they are voice recorders you gotta check into the frequency range because sometimes these companies cut off certain frequencies to save space or something.. I have seen sony ones that only do like 800-3000 hz or something like that which makes them not as good for people like us... granted that was using cassette as a medium but it's still one of their current products on the website.

I would go with a laptop with a cheap mobile pre by m-audio and even use a free recorder like audacity just to save them. Don't you have a 500 though?

also, if you get the original zoom h4, it looks like an oldschool tazer

there is also the newer zoom h1, which has an input jack (headphone sized one that works also as a mic in)

all the zoom H_ models do 24 bit wav..

I sold my 500 when I switched over to the 2500.

Your the second person to recommend the laptop & interface route but I dont think that would be my most portable/ on the go option.

Im just wondering how good those portable recorders are now with the line input?

Im really liking the Zoom H4 and Zoom H4N. Im diggin' those 1/4" inputs. Shit is real dope.
