Just wondering if chop shop detects transients for each slice? I'm new to the MPC, chop shop so far does a fairly good job of slicing samples into 'equal' regions.

Thats a good question to be honest, I'm not sure if does detect transients (Don't really use the auto chop feature). I would say the best way to test this theory is with drums. My guess would be that it does detect transients but the chops might not be as accurate.

There is Auto chop, this chops on the transients and does not do the equal chop. RTFM
